7 nights in the beautiful Swiss alps in June 2020
Couple aged 40 with a girl child on our first Europe trip in end May 2020 We love natural scenic mountains , lakes , lush green fields, falls, snow etc We would have 7 nights in Swiss alps from June 07-14, 2020 and would enter via Milan We are on a budget especially for accommodation (less than $180/night). We would surely be buying the Swiss rail pass as we intend to do 2 or more scenic rails My main question is which 2 towns should we select to be at the centre of the swissbeauty and to easily explore the Swiss rail/cable/boat system efficiently & effectively and which also doesn’t break our budget We like to stay at hotel but won’t mind if we get an apartment/chalet which turns out cheaper but in a better scenic location All in all we are looking for cheap accommodation but in the best town and area Thanks |
Most first time visitors to Switzerland head to the Berner Oberland.
Unfortunately, it’s not inexpensive and it can be very busy in summer; but by visiting in early June you’re at a distinct advantage as it doesn’t get crazy busy until later in the summer. Do be sure to check the operating schedules of any mountain excursions you don’t want to miss as some don’t open until late June (although this seems to change every year). I like Wengen and Murren as bases, but we’ve also spent a wonderful week in Lauterbrunnen, which is a transportation hub of sorts – you can get to anywhere in the BO easily from Lauterbrunnen. The village is located in a valley, whereas Wengen and Murren are higher up, but this isn’t a deterrent for us. We visit Switzerland often, and these days we always rent an apartment – we like having the extra space and a full kitchen, which enables us to make our own breakfast, pack picnic lunches and make the occasional evening meal, hot chocolate, etc. The main difference between a hotel and an apartment is space, daily service, breakfast (and a dinner option in some hotels) and certain amenities. If you’re like us, and don’t need the daily service, breakfast, spa facilities or other amenities, an apartment could well work for you and save a bundle. Generally, longer stays will save money as well, so basing yourself in a single apartment for the entire week could well prove the most economical solution. You’ll also save money on meals by utilizing bakeries and grocery stores.
