7 days in Switzerland

Hi,

I am planning a 7N trip to swtizerland for my honeymoon

Dates: 3rd Dec-11th Dec'12

Things that I would like to know:
1. How is the weather?
2. How is the season in terms of crowd, shopping?
3. Will i be able to see all the places? or are there any places which will be closed in this season?
4. And last should I cover only switzerland or any other country? and if yes, which one?

looking forward for your comments.

Thanks in advance.

Getting to be peak season for skiing, winter sports - more so as December goes on so in the mountains it will be hectic - weather should not be that cold at resort towns which are at lower levels generally than where the snow and skiing is.

all places should be open then.

for seven days I would try to concentrate on Switzerland - a place like the Jungfrau Region - the fantastic Jungfrau Region that will match the glacier-girdled Alpine Wonderland of Switzerland perhaps etched in your mind's eye can easily be a great base for several days - though you could do two bases - one in the high Alps and perhaps one a little warmer like Lugano or the Geneva area - both wonderful places as well.

The best way IMO to get around Switzerland - especially during the winter is by train - some Alpine resorts like the Jungfrau Region do not even let cars in but require them to be parked at the edge of towns - some towns like Wengen and Murren are not even accessible by private vehicle.

Trains go everywhere - even to tops of mountains - investigate a Swiss Pass, covering most trains and giving 50% off mountain cable cars and gondolas, etc. - great sources of info on Swiss transports and passes (and things also like the Half-Fare Card, Swiss Card, Swiss Transfer ticket - mind-boggling options here - check out these IMO fantastic sources - www.swisstravelsystem.com; www.budgeteuropetravel.com and www.ricksteves.com.

Swiss Passes also grant free entry to over 400 Swiss museums if say you are in Zurich or Lucerne or Bern that have many acclaimed museums - Lucerne and Bern could be easy enough day trips from a Jungfrau (Interlaken-Grindelwald-Lauterbrunnen) base.

My husband and I went to Zermatt, St. Moritz and Lucerne on our Honeymoon a few months ago. It was amazing. Tips: bottle water is expensive, but it's what they give you if you order water at a restaurant... you may want to ask for tap water, which is delicious. It was a mild winter when I was there, in the 50's for the most part. We went to the small country Lichtenstien for a few days...I loved it, especially Malbune...hope this helps!

can't think of anything that should be closed - actually in mid-November some lifts are closed for repair since that is in between seasons - summer and winter and a good time to repair since few folks are there - hoteliers often take vacations during May and November IME too for the same reason.

But before Christmas things should be humming I would suspect as they gear up for the Christmas period rush.
