7 days in provence

Hi, I've posted a few messages recently, I'm new to these boards and am amazed at the wealth of info here. I'm well travelled but have never been to provence. As a working artist I feel it's my duty to go there already.Still, I'm having trouble deciding where to stay as a base.I have put in searches up top (which at first I didn't know about) for every which subject and town and just when I think I've got it--nope. So I arrive FEb. 22 to Paris (i'm traveling alone), tgv to aix or avignon? Can't decide. I know last 3 days in Nice at Palais de la mediteranee, but the first 4 days base in avignon, aix or st. remy. I'm a 39 yr. old female living in nyc. if that helps on where would be the best for me.

thanx

I loved Avignon and we stayed at the Clarion. Sounds boring, but it was a 16th century Jesuit school and we had a room on the top floor with a giant window and wooden beams. Loved it. Avignon is very central to where you want to be and the streets are fun to walk. Wherever you stay, make sure it is inside the city walls.

Will you have a car???

If not, then I think Avignon would be the best bet. The old section is a little larger than Aix and much larger than St Remy - so there's probably more to see & do. My wife says that Aix has the best shopping.

thank you both. No stu I will not have a car, and like your wife plan on doing alot of shopping, but mostly for artwork and craftwork. Also if you don't mind another question, I think I saw posted somewhere that I can take a taxi to Isle sur la sorgue for the sunday market, is that right?

I'm sure you can get a taxi to l'Isle sur la Sorgue. There is also a train station there - but in the dozen or so times we've been there, I've never seen it.
