7 days England tour - need help with plan
 

Hello everyone,

My husband and I will be arriving in London on June 1st early morning. We plan to spend 6 days in England and then leave to Ireland on June 7th.

We really appreciate any input for us to plan our days in England. One friend suggest Canterbury day trip also visit Avebury circle and Stonehenge. Any suggestion?

OK - I'll play. No one can plan your trip for you. We can help you refine things once you have a plan. If you only have a 6 days you <u>cannot</u> see/do/tour 'England'.

You could spend the 6 days based in London, do Canterbury as a day trip by train. On another day you could rent a car to tour around the areas west of London where Avebury, Stonehenge and other sites are located. Or there are hundreds of other places you could go.

But 6 days will only barely scratch the surface if you never set foot outside London. And your arrival day will likely be a jet lagged fog, so you have even less time than you may imagine.

(I sure hope you don't plan on 'doing' Ireland in a week.)

As JanisJ said, we need a little more information on your plans and what you're interested in. I've been to London 8 times for a week at a time and I still haven't seen everything on offer. I'd stick with London and make a day trip or two based on your interests.

Perhaps if you post more about your interests, the helpful people on the board can recommend some places.:)

On our first European trip two years ago, we spent 10 days in London with a long day trip to Bath and Stonehenge etc. We also felt like we barely scratched the surface. There is so much to see just in London.

Free museums highly recommended are the British Museum, the National Gallery, National Portrait Gallery and the Imperial War Museum.

The Cabinet War Rooms and Churchill Museum, Tower of London, Westminster Abbey and St Paul's are all excellent. All these things can easily fill up a week. What do you like to see/do when traveling?

The Queens Jubillee celebration holiday is 2nd June to Tuesday 5th June. This is a public holiday in the UK and a lot of the tourist places and especially London will be very busy. Travel on the 5th will also be exceptionally busy and it may be running a reduced service. There is a big concert outside Buckingham Palace (ticket only) on the 5th so I'd avoid going there that day as you won't be able to see the palace.

Sorry - the concert is on Monday 4th June.

My husband and I realize that 7 days in England is just scratching the surface. We won't see much. We're just gonna try to make the most out of it.

Yes, best to concentrate on a few things in London area and then explore beyond as time permits. So e.g. St. Pauls and Tower are naturals and out a ways Windsor Castle and Kew Gardens, maybe Bath or Cambridge or Stonehenge (and Avebury is also nice) a bit further. Maybe museums or theatre. It does depend on interests. Probably just sign up for days tours. You will of course be having fun planning your days. And then Ireland...wonderful places there.

If you really want to see Stonehenge, check out the inner circle tours by English Heritage. Otherwise you only get to walk around the outside perimeter, not near the stones.
