7 days driving in Italy
I am travelling to Munich with my partner for a wedding in September and would like to spend just over a week driving in Italy afterwards. Would this itinerary allow us enough time in each place?
Day 1: drive from Munich to Lake Como Day 2: spend time in Lake Como, then drive to Milan Day 3: Milan for night Day 4: drive to Cinque Terre, stay night Day 5: drive to Pisa, then Florence for night Day 6: Florence for night Day 7: drive to Bologna, then Venice for night Day 8: Venice for night Day 9: drive to Padova, then back to Munich I'd love to go to Rome and the Amalfi coast as well but fear that would be too much so have left assuming there will be another trip or should I replace something in the above? Also, are there any interesting festivals/events at that time of year that we should plan to attend? (We will be travelling back to Munich to attend Oktoberfest of course!) |
With this itinerary you will spend all your time in the car and checking in and out of hotels... and see very little of Italy.
With only 7 days of actual visiting, pick at most 2 places. |
I agree with drbb - you are taking on too much and we are folks that like to travel fast. This is what I would do:
Lake Como (Belagio) Sermione Verona Venice You are still seeing a lot of new places but are staying along the autostrata without zig zagging all over the country. |

If a drive-by is enough time, yes. |
You can't drive in Florence (center is restricted) or Venice. Do you just want to see autostradas for 7 days?
|
You do not want to drive in Venice, Florence, Milan and Bologna. I would see Como--drive via Landeck and St. Moritz--- the Cinque Terre, and stop at Verona on your way back. That is a full trip.

Have done numerous road trips in Europe with several in italy. But - you're not giving yourself time to really see anything - you will spend the bulk of your time in the car- and looking for parking garages, finding hotels and checking in and out.
Agree in a week you can really see a reasonable amount of 2 places - spending the day driving between them seeing a little of a third. IMHO for Venice you need at least 3 nights (which is 2 days). The same for Florence. (We like to travel more slowly and wouldn't spend so few nights, but in the above I'm allowing for people who like to move quickly and see only a few of the major sights - not really get a flavor for any of the places). |
Thank you for your advice, I think I will stick with Lake Como and Venice and save the rest for another trip(s);)
