7 day cruise from barcelona
does it make sense to take a 7 day cruise from barcelona? If so which one we were never in europe before we are in our early 30th. It will be and my husband last 2 weeks in July. We are planning to stary 3 nights in Barcelano before taking a cruise. thank you,

Sure why not? I've taken the Splendida.
here's 2 separate options for MSC: MSC Cruise Lines offers two ships with seven-day itineraries out of Barcelona. The MSC Fantasia departs from Barcelona to Marseille (France), Genoa (Italy), Naples (Italy), Palermo (Italy), La Goulette (Tunisia) and spends two days in Palma de Mallorca (Spain) before returning to Barcelona. Built in 2008, the MSC Fantasia has 13 decks and a length of 1,093 feet and holds 3,959 guests. Built in 2009, the MSC Splendida departs from Barcelona for seven days to La Goulette (Tunisia), Valletta (Malta), Messina (Italy), Rome/Civitavecchia (Italy), Genoa (Italy) and Marseille (France). MSC Splendida's 13 decks hold 3,959 passengers, and the total length is 1,093 feet. MSC Cruise Lines 6750 North Andrews Avenue Fort Lauderdale, FL 33309 (954) 772-6262 msccruiseusa.com |

Make sense for what? Cruises are one thing, touring Europe is something different. If you want a cruise experience, a cruise is good. But the only bits of Europe you'd see are on shore excursions between legs at sea. From your other thread it does seem you are all over the place - no clear ideas of what you want. I'd get down to the local book store or library tomorrow morning and pick up some guide books and read up on the places you are considering. Your trip is in just over a month - you need to find a focus fairly soon. |
If you want a taste of Europe a cruise is a good idea. At least you would get to see different ports. Then you can decide where you would like to go back to for an extended land vacation. This is what we have done when we really didn't know where we would like to spend an extended time. Then we go back to places we loved while cruising. This year we plan to spend more time in Barcelona because we enjoyed it so much. You would hate to spend money for a land vacation and get there and realize you have 7 days there and really 3 days would have been enough time to spend in one place.

Hi,
We taking a NCL 7-day western med cruise that sails this Sunday. We will stay one night in Barcelona before boarding the ship. At the end of the cruise, we are renting an apartment in Barcelona and will stay there eight nights before flying out. I've been to Italy, so just doing the one-day excursions are fine for us. I have not been to Spain, so the week after the cruise will be a new adventure that both my husband and I can share. Is it possible that you can also do both? |
you can find a variety of cruises with their ratings ( MSC is middle of the road) at www.vacationstogo.com.
I have never taken a cruise but I see there are plenty of options there. |
A cruise is a good way to get over jet lag.
The ship travels at night while you are asleep. You can plan whatever you want to do while in port. If you have ever wanted to drive the Amalfi coast you could do it while in Naples. In Monaco you could go to the Grand Casino. In Mallorca you could take the Soller railway So yes, it makes sense.. if that is what you like. A major drawback is that you won't get to eat local food... only what is available on the ship. No Italian food in Italy! |
I'm sailing on a 7 night cruise from Barcelona next Saturday with a group of 20 to celebrate a friend's birthday. I'm usually a "slow" traveler who likes to spend a minimum of 3-7 days in each destination. I see the cruise as a sampler of places I've never visited and will use the experience to help shape a future "slow" trip to the region.
I chose to cruise first for a week then enjoy Barcelona for a week rather than the other way around. While on the cruise I can overcome jetlag without having to worry about food, transportation, etc. as the first full day is at sea. By the time I am back in Barcelona I will be fully alert and ready to do my own thing. Ann Marie |
