62 pence...bargain or rip-off?

LONDON (Reuters) - The Queen costs each taxpayer 62 pence a year, with the overall cost of running the royal family increasing above the rate of inflation, Buckingham Palace said on Wednesday.

Hey,for a mere 62p/year you've got a bargain.

The 2004 US Presidential campaign cost about $4,000,000,000 - around $13 pp.

Divided over 4 years, it cost nearly 1 GBP pp/year just to put G. Bush in the White house.

Bargain! And she pays her income taxes now too.

Now if we could just skip over that mooning git Charles.

KidsToLondon Jun 28th, 2006 06:49 AM

excellent point Ira! And I'd take the UK "W" (Windsor) over the US "W" (George W. Bush) any day.

AND she doesn't dye her hair, suggest rather bizarre economic policies that end up not working, start wars, is able to knight people without cutting their heads off with the sword, speaks decent English, and actually could produce records showing she served during a major conflict..what a woman!

You like her ? I'd gladley pay andother 62 p a year to send you the whole bunch of them :-)

Me too Willit. Who needs a feudal left-over?

UreOSceptic Jun 28th, 2006 07:33 AM

"Who needs a feudal left-over?"

Most of the world's real democracies. Like Sweden, Australia, Canada, Holland, Denmark, New Zealand, Japan....

The real question is who needs a political system where the wishes of the electorate are subordinate to a gerrymandered committee of superannuated lawyers second-guessing what a traitorous gang of tax-dodging slave owners would have thought 230 years ago.

All costing a great deal more than 62p per citizen per year.

Do I detect a tinge of sour grapes? :)

"Do I detect a tinge of sour grapes"

Not at all. Just bafflement that an allegedly free people let people like that still determine their laws.

okay okay stop the infighting, let's get back to Queeny and The Clan.

Charles and 'Milla cost a bargain 3.5p a year.

JAGIRL Jun 28th, 2006 09:58 AM

Milla should be left to fend for herself.

willit Jun 29th, 2006 01:17 AM

I think they should all be left to fend for themselves - preferably in the middle of a swamp, or maybe the Sahara. (Queens's Diary , day 26 : Sad day, had to eat the last of the corgis, at least it tasted better that Edward)

Whoops , I'm turning all republican (In a non US political party sense). Charles's accounts were made public - his income was up £320K but he managed to get away with only £30K tax due to "clever accountancy". It's a sad day for a monarchy when you have to depend on clever accountants !

Darn right. Monarchs should collect taxes, not pay them. :)

Queen's Diary Day 27: Went hungry today...I just couldn't bring my self to eat 'Milla. She's just too darn ugly! :(

handmaiden Jun 29th, 2006 10:29 AM

JAGirl, shouldn't that be "Prince Charles' Diary, Day 27?" ;)

JAGirl, your post has got to be one of the funniest post I've read in a long time! :D
