Wow....this summer was sooo nice here in the UK (and blazing hot on the continent) that it's hard to think of snow!

Cheryl,

I recently learned about gemut.com. You might want to give them a "click" and see if you can land a more attractive rate.

While I've not used the services of gemut, I can say - and in no uncertain terms - that you need be very suspicious about Hertz. I've been burned and by this company twice over the past two summers (Germany and Ireland). The company lures you with attractive rates, but then hammers you with unreasonable charges when you deliver the auto at trip's end.

Head's up when it comes to Hertz.

Hello Everyone,

I'm joining in this post late. Just found out I'll be going to Germany for about 10 days (13-23 Oct). I don't want to hassle with rental cars. Does anybody know of sites that show train routes? I'll be staying in or around Frankfurt.

Thanks

All the posts above provide great advice. Autoeurope has been a good source for us. e.g., this past summer we rented a car with them for 12 days with pickup at Munich and drop off in Graz, Austria. The first price quote was just under $1,000 USD. After looking that various options (using my credit card that provided coverage) I was able to get the car foe $625 (note: it was an intermediate with stick). Look for alternative pickup and dropoff locations. Airport and train stations are more.

Don't hestiate to try and deal with the care rental. Keep pressing them for a discount. We were able to be sucessful.
