6 week stay in Madrid - where to live?
My husband and I will be in Madrid for 6 weeks (October into November). We will be working near the Prado. I am looking for recommendations of areas to look for housing. We don't mind walking a bit and/or taking public transit, but we don't want to be traveling for more than 30 minutes. We are in our 50s, so not looking for anything too happening! Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

Check Los Madrazos St. and surroundings

Ditto to what Revulgo has told you. If you'll be working near the Prado, it would be convenient to stay around the Cortes barrio (or ward), in the Centro district.
Most everthing there is walkable to the major sites. I assume your company will be taking care of the rental? Genteel Home is a well-respected apartment rental company that has some corporate rentals (as opposed to short term tourist rentals). This is one that they have on Calle de los Madrazo. While it is too large for just 2 people, it's just an example of the type of property in their portfolio. https://new.rentalsunited.com/proper.../06/2024&nop=2 |
Can I sleep on the floor somewhere???

We rented from HOMECLUB. on daily basis…most of their rentals are long term…

My rental from Home Club this past summer was a month-long rental. 2 bedrooms, 2 baths. It was in the very swanky Almagro barrio of Chamberí, on Calle Zurbano, surrounded by stately architecture, across from the luxury Hotel Palacio de Santo Mauro and next to an embassy. Gorgeous location. Walkable to the Prado in 30 minutes or reachable by the Alonso Martínez or Rubén Darío metro with line changes, so not quick and the closest metro to the Prado is Antón Martín, or reachable by a bus running down the Paseo de la Castellana-Paseo de Recoletos-Paseo del Prado.
It was fine for us as we were house hunting, but I would look for something closer. Home Club does have over 800 properties now, between the short term and long term (corporate) rentals in Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia, Málaga. |

Recoletos is also a great place to rent in the Barrio de Salamanca, a bit easier walk to the Prado or an easy bus ride on bus 27.
danon, We're going there for lunch on Monday to a new, casual, moderately-priced place opened at Recoletos 11, Casa Canito. |

I'll let you know how we like it. It's received good reviews from my foodie friends. Hope it´s not just a "flash in the pan". There are too many new openings here to keep up with!

Thank you! I am looking forward to this visit!

Retiro or Salamanca would be a couple of good options.
