Good morning, myst Back in the later 70's took a trip to Italy and Sicily
with my wifes three aunts and one uncle all in their 60 and 70's.. It was their first trip and ours' fourth or fifth...We went on our own arriving in Rome and connecting to Palermo for about four days, returning to Rome and then by rail to Venice.. After Venice we rented two cars, Small fiats and three persons to a car and started to drive back to Rome via Firenze and Assisi, worked out very well, as the
four had not been to IT before they
wanted to see qas much as possible. However tried to allow them sufficent time to shop and sightsee on their own.
with six it can be difficult to have agreement on each decision.. Part of your plus is that with a tour it is structured and basically your route4
and sightseeing is layed out leaving you only the time for shopping , etec. that time will allow. Tours have a tendency to take up most of your day and arrival can be later in the afternoon and early the next morning.
Free time can be difficult on some tours, not any are perfect. For the
hard to please, etc. person might have
a good talk to him/her and have a good
understanding before departure to make
as enjoyable of trip as possible for you and the others.
Did have to exercise paintence with my crew, and actually other than the first day, had a most enjoyable trip.

All I can say is to have a glass of wine every day at lunch and 2 at night..You are amazing for doing this but your thoughts sound great and the tour idea is a good one for older folks...will limit the walking which is always good and you can walk around in the evenings when they retire for the night.

I took 26 people to Europe a few years back. A varied group with 5 boy teenagers and their parents, my mom amd mom in law, aunt and uncle who were all in the 60's, and my bridge group in the 40-50 range. We had a blast. You do find that people break off in groups. I had them on Ef tours and did 7 days in london and 7 days in paris. I think you definitely need a tour. I also took 10 to rome, venice and florence with 3 nights in each with american express. Research, I bet you could get a tour to meet your needs, try ef tours or go ahead, doing on your own first time would be overwhelming unless people in your group are assigned certain countries to hanle tours lodging transportation.
