6 nights in Paris too much?
We are going for the marathon on April 6th. We will arrive in Paris from 4 nights in Prague 4 nights before the marathon. Should we spend 2 nights some place outside of the city? If so what suggestions would you have?
Thanks

We have been to Paris twice, for 3 nights and 6 nights. We are going back this Sept because we have not seen everything we wanted to see. 6 Nihts is a good start but.... Once you've been there you will understand how much time it takes to see it all.

I usually stay 5-7 days in Paris, and I would be surprised if you were bored after 4 days or night.
Major attractions like Versailles can take one full day, also the multitude of museums. Actually, I would say that you can experience Paris in a more relaxed way if you have one week.
Since you mentioned the Marathon in your OP: Is that a concern, that the marathon will somehow disturb your plans, i.e. hotel prices soaring, getting around in the city?
If so, you may want to specify your question, so that people here who have experience with the marathon can comment on that.
P.S. Questioning the time for a stay in Paris is major blasphemy here, as you may have noticed ;-)

It all depends on what you like to do and see. Personally, 2 nights was too much for me but that is because I prefer the outskirts/countryside/villages to the bigger cities....less touristy outside the cities.
But...on the the otherhand I know friends who can't get enough of it and never go anywhere but to the major cities.

denice7 - You need to come to a Fodorite GTG in Paris - we'll show you how exciting, lovely, charming, fantastic & beautiful Paris is -
My answer to minnesota_nice:
No, honey - 6 weeks or even 6 months is not enough!
Can you tell we are Paris slaves?!!

Although we are "small village" travelers for the most part, we can never spend enough time in Paris! We did three nights a couple of times, then four nights, then seven nights - still did not see all we wanted to see. We will spend three nights again in Paris in the fall, even though we had not planned to stop in Paris this trip. Just can't seem to plan a trip without a stopover in Paris!

Most people would enjoy 6 nights, but a lot of folks on Fodors refuse to believe that everyone in the world would not love to spend endless days in Paris. I don't know why they think that. It's a large city and like any city, some people don't like it--they don't like large cities and/or just don't like the culture, etc. There are certainly cities in the world where I did not want to stay 6 days, it's no different (eg, Vienna).
The OP never really asked was 6 nights too many, the question could have been regarding costs or just a way to experience some other place, I suppose. Who knows -- minnesotanice will have to say why that question was asked.

I would spend the extra 2 nights in Paris. You will have at least one day taken up by the marathon. My only caveat: I don't have a sense of how hard it is to get a hotel room at that time if you don't already have reservations.
