6 hrs looking for hotel in Rome.... SOMEBODY HELP ME!

I have spent 6+ hrs on here and tripadvisor and cannot make a decision on Rome. Have booked the Al Duca di Venezia in Venice and Grand Tour Relais in Florence (hope those are good choices!) but Rome is turning out to be a hard call. Im travelling in only 6 weeks so need to make up my mind pronto!

I have elimated these (recommended here/tripadvisor) due to poor cancellation policy or lack of availabilty:

Albergo Cesari
Teatro Pace
Baldassini BB
Nicholas Inn

Need something 130 euros or under (preferably under), centrally located since we will only be in Rome 4 days, clean and QUIET with well insulated walls. Prefer something that doesnt look like a Best Western or Motel 6!

Am considering Raphaello based on tripadvisor, but is it really in a central location?

Also REALLY like the Palm Gallery but it's so far from everything. If it was located more centrally, I would have booked it already.

Help me plllleeease!

We stayed at B&B Flavius http://www.bbflavius.com/index_eng.html June 2009 for 90 euros.

It is south of the Coliseum (not completely central but near an internet cafe and places to eat and walking distance to the Coliseum) and between 2 metro stations. We had a decent breakfast every morning on the roof and it has an elevator. We had no issues with noise (not sure if the walls were thick or if the people there with us were just quite). The bathroom was good sized (the shower small though) and the room larger for Italy standards. The only issue we had was a stiff bed, but that seems pretty normal in Italy. We would stay there again. Good luck deciding, it took me awhile to find a place in Rome too!

It is short-sighted to belittle the idea of Best Western as a hotel choice in Italy. Best Western in Italy is not a chain of identical, American-style hotels. Rather, each Best Western is an individually owned and operated hotel under the Best Western masthead. They will be true Italian hotels. They may or may not be within your budget.

You have stated "I" and "we" in your post. How many people will be in your room for no more than 130 euro?

I enjoyed our stay at Daphne Inn—nice rooms, great personal service. They may have a room in your price range at one of their properties.

ellenem, when I said "Best Western or Motel 6" I was referring to the "type" of hotel. I meant the standard, cookie-cutter low budget type hotel we see here in the States- and quite honestly the majority of the hotels I've looked at had this "feel" to them, and some of them were quite a bit more than 130 euros.

There will be two of us.

Not the greatest location, but not horrendous either. Metro station was 4 blocks away.

We stayed at this hotel as part of a package offered by Alitalia a couple of years ago. Withing walking distance to Forum (if one doesn't mind walking a lot!). A couple of decent restaurants nearby too.

Price seems within your range. Room was small (any other kind in Europe?), breakfast was standard fare and included in the price, at least when we were there. Owners were a pleasure to deal with.

maybe Motel 6 is an example of what you are trying to avoid. But even in the States, Best Western's are not all alike (or even necessarily budget)

Best Western's are individually owned and can be anything from basic roadside motels to posh beach resorts to full service hotels.

More so in Italy

Have you tried these (which happen to be BW's). I plugged in random dates in mid Nov and one came in just under and one just over your budget.

Hi

How about Hotel Teatro Pace - http://www.hotelteatropace.com.

Why not rent an apartment?

FallingLeaves, I understood your meaning about a "Best Western" type. I also understood from your statement that you were unfamiliar with the true nature of Best Westerns in Italy. I assumed you might not choose a hotel with the name Best Western when it might be just the type of place for which you are so frantically searching. Janisj has provided two diverse Best Westerns as examples.

Another suggestion in your price range:

Thank you all for the suggestions, I will check those out. Teatro Pace is already booked up, I already checked with them.

My husband did some searching last night and came across Al Centro Di Roma B&B. Anyone familiar with it? It's certainly in a good location and very inexpensive, but it doesn't have many reviews on tripadvisor so I'm a little leary.

thanks again everyone!

I stayed at the Rafaello this past March, and was very impressed. It's Rome's best kept secret. It's not right smack dab in the center as, say, a P. Navona location, but that's why you can get this fantastic hotel for a more reasonable price. And I loved the neighborhood despite it being a hike to the main sites, which were only a bus ride away if my feet hurt.

Not sure why you eliminated Albergo Cesari but it is a good hotel in a prime tourist location.

Also check out Albergo Santa Chiari behind the Pantheon - not sure but it may make your budget for November.

Do look at the Hotel Fori Imperiali Cavalieri. This is in the Monti and (with cases ) about 5 minutes walk from the metro at Coloseum. We stayed here at the beginning of September. Our need was for a quiet room and A/c that worked. It ticked all the boxes and was also very convenient. We had an early brakfast due to an early flight and it it was good and welcoming.
I see that they have a Winter offer of 270 euros for 4 nights!
Only drawback is that there is a lot of graffiti around but this didn't impact at all on our stay.

Hi FallingLeaves, I just took a look on Trip Advisor and found 31 reviews, most were very positive. If it were me I'd take a chance and book then relax and count the days until you leave. Have a great trip.

We've stayed twice at the very centrally-located but quiet Residenza Canali ai Coronari. It's about a block from Piazza Navona on a small street with lots of antique shops. Per the website, it's a little above your price range, but you may be able to get a deal in November. And I know they offer a discount if you pay in cash (that's what we do). Breakfast is included, the staff is very helpful and pleasant.

We stayed at Nicholas Inn in May, 2009. Our room overlooked Via Cavour (which you might not like)but when the window was closed it was quiet. They do have rooms in the back which would be quieter. You couldn't ask for nicer owners...very helpful, etc. It is walking distance to the Coliseum.
Whatever you choose, enjoy your stay!

Falling,

Check out Hotel Genio, which is located right by Piazza Navona, so close to many many sights.

We stayed there some years ago, and our little group had five rooms which varied in size and style. However, all were clean and the staff helpful.

The rooftop terrace is a good place for a late afternoon glass of wine

Have no idea why this "submitted" beful I finished!

Anyway, we liked the hotel some years ago, and I think the porice will suit your budget.

I know exactly the feeling! I spend much more than six hours looking for hotel/apartment/B&B in Rome...I was desperated and tired. Last night I finally booked my hotel, looks great; not in the center, but not far, 9.5 points in Venere and 4.5 in TripAD. Good price also. Search for "About B & B"

We stayed at the Relais Le Clarisse two years ago and loved it.It is in Trastevere but we walked to most places or took the number 8 tram into the historical centre.
When we went to the Vatican we paid Mauritzio from the hotel to take us there so we didn't miss our tour and then wandered home.
Breakfast was included, the staff was helpful,we didn't find it noisy although the area is lively. It really was a fun area at night with lots of restaurant choices and people out strolling late at night.

We recommended it to friends and they loved it too.
It is definitely not a Best Western.
