6 Days - Madrid to Barcelona

Hello all,

My husband and I are flying into Madrid, arriving on the morning of Saturday Oct 1. We have to be in Barcelona, at the latest on the morning of October 7th. Having never been to Spain before, do you have any recommendations for an itinerary? We were originally thinking 3 days in Madrid and 3 days in Barcelona, but are open to suggestions.

Thanks!

I was in Madrid last April...for just a few days...Two things I can suggest;

1. Prado Museum
2. La Barraca for Paella

both cities offer so much.
best to do some research and decide what it is that YOU are interested in: museums, galleries, parks, churches, palaces,
shopping, etc.

print out Maribel's guides (www.maribelsguides.com) She has all kinds of useful info for each of those cities.

If only 6 days, I would spend it all in Barcelona. Both cities are great, but I think Barcelona has more to offer. If you do both, then 2 in Madrid and 4 in Barcelona.

Remember to plan your evenings. In Barcellona the Opera Gran Teatre del Liceu and the ALAU DE LA MÚSICA CATALANA are both awesome. In Madrid, go see the Teatro Real. Tickets can easily be had over the internet.

2 Madrid, 4 Barcelona sounds reasonable, of course you could spend much more time in both cities,
Barcelona is outstanding, it is like a superb flambee dessert versus a good lemon pie,....
Barcelona It has it all, beaches, mountains, a huge gothic area, the amazing Modernism buildings the ramblas, the museums covering lot of romanesque for instance plus everything else, the theaters, the music, the graphic arts, the food, the food markets, chic shops, and elegant streets, all...Madrid has a great Museum, the Prado for me is one of the best museumin the world, then you have also great food, old parts of the city like Plaza Mayor, but nothing really old like gothic areas, the Paseo de la Castellana etc .... in essence for me both are great places to visit.
