6 days in Slovenia and Croatia in January
Hi, I would like to know your thoughts on my itinerary in early January (all by public transport and solo).
Do I miss any must visit places in winter on my itinerary or should I replace any destinations listed below? I like architecture, culture, good food and natures.
1st day: Arrive Ljubljana Airport
2nd day: Explore Ljubljana
3rd: Bled
4th: Travel to Zagreb
5th: Zagreb
6th: Back to Ljubljana Airport

It's usually best not to start a new thread on the same topic - best to continue your existing thread. FYI, if you can't find old threads you started, click on your profile (your name) and you'll find links to them.

But that is going to be an extremely quick trip to try to squeeze in both Ljubljana and Zagreb. I'd probably stick to Slovenia myself for that short of a time and do day trips to little towns a few days (Bled, Skofja Loka...maybe even a cave if they are open in the winter.) . I probably wouldn't bother spending a night at Lake Bled in January myself - probably pretty slow. I'd rather be back in (slightly) urban Ljubjlana night.
Sure, you will miss things in January because of the weather and the season. For example, you can't hike Vintgar Gorge (by Bled). And the days will be really short, so daytime exploration hours would be limited.

I would stick to Slovenia, too, and stick to sleeping in Ljubljana for such a short visit. The caves are definitely worth considering as they are open year-round and are weather-independent. If you're interested in architecture, head for some of the small-town gems, such as Skofja Loka, Radovljica or a bit further out, Piran on the coast or Ptuj in the east.
For food, there are some excellent places in the region around the caves and Piran, but they are difficult to reach if you are dependent on public transport. Instead, you could go on a food tour while in Ljubljana. There is plenty of international cuisine as well as a variety of Slovenian cuisine from all over the country - traditional food varies quite a bit from region to region.
