6 Days in Paris - Where to Stay?
 

Will be in Paris the first week of September with my adult daughter. Thinking we might stay 3 nights in one place and 3 nights in another. Any thoughts or recommendations? What are your favorite links for hotel/apartment/B&B searches? Thanks!

I would recommend staying in the same place the whole six days. It takes up too much time to change hotels, time you could be out seeing the sites! Getting around Paris on foot, metro or velib is very easy so you can stay in one place and still be able to explore others.

Have you been to Paris before? I think it is nice to stay in a hotel on your first trip so you have someone to ask questions of regarding places to go, restaurant recommendations, etc. if you've been before and feel comfortable being on your own, then I'd suggest an apartment. If you give us your price range for hotel/apartment, then I'm sure you will get lots of recommendations.

I would opt to stay in one place for your 6 nights as you will lose quite a bit of one day moving from one hotel to the next.

i definitely agree with the above.

public transport in Paris is so good that so long as your are staying somewhere reasonably central, there's really no point in moving after 3 nights to another place. When deciding where to stay, good access to the metro/RER is usually top of my list.

I agree with the above. We will be in Paris for two weeks in mid to late September and will be staying in the same apartment for the entire visit. We're staying on the Ile de St. Louis but have previously stayed in the 6th arrondisement in hotels or apartments. The 6th is very centrally located.

I like this forum for leads on apartments and hotels. I recommend a hotel for the first trip or two. It is nice to have a staff to help you make your way about until you become familiar with the city. If you have been before, you may want to consider an apartment. Let the Fodorites know your preferences and your budget and they can be very helpful.

Agree, for sure. Don't change for such a short stay. I prefer the left bank within easy walking distance to Ile de cite. Many people like the Marais, which is on the right bank somewhat nearby.

I also agree completely with annhig- my top priority is to find a place very close to a metro stop.

the most convenient place that we have stayed in Paris so far was in a hotel in the 5th very near the Notre-Dame/St michel stop. not only is it on the metro, but it is at the junction of 2 RER lines - the RER B which is about 40 mins from CDG, and the RER C to Versailles and all stops in between like the Quay D'Orsay, Champs de Mars for the Eiffel Tower etc.

And very easy walking to the Musee D'Orsay, St Germain, Notre Dame, the Louvre, etc. etc. plus literally hundreds of restaurants on your doorstep.

We will be in Paris the middle of September for 4nights then leaving for Reims for 2 nights then returning to Paris for 3 more nights. we will be staying in the 5th Arr. The first leg and we chose to stay in a hotel after many times of renting apartments in the past. We find it easier and gives us more freedom and no worries about deposits and wire transfers and large amounts of euros for the balance when we arrive.
On our second leg we will be staying in the 6th Arr. Near many cafes and restaurants and close to Seine. For first timers defenitely a hotel.

Merci, everyone! I was in Paris 30 years ago, so a hotel for six nights sounds like the thing to do. I was leaning toward Left Bank, though I've been reading good things about Marais, too. Proximity to metro/RER is key, as i use a cane - I can keep up with the 22-year-old, but still :) Annhig - do you know the name of the hotel you stayed at in the 5th Arr? Re: budget - hoping for under 200 US$/night. Is that doable?

although it's only just off the Boulevard St Michel it's in a very quiet street which was a pleasant surprise. They are showing rooms for €153 per night in September which is just over U$ 200 I think. it is literally a spit from the metro/RER, and has a nice big lift which you may appreciate.

Are there 2 or 3 of you? You might want to check out an apartment, though it might be a bit late if you are going as early in September. I've used Paris Address on a couple occasions and have been very pleased. The website is easy to navigate and search.
