6 days in Paris should we give up a day to visit Brugge day trip?

hello my husband & I will be in Paris for the first time April 28th-June 3rd. so excited the thought of being in Paris! should we give up one day for a day trip to Brugge? I have a girlfriend that lived there for many years and ended up marrying a Belguim man. she speaks so fondly of it and says its a must see. they have now moved back to Australia (where we live). help me make a decision I know I would love to see Brugge as we can't go to Venice this trip but the thought of giving up a day in Paris when I have longed for years to visit? all thoughts most welcome.

Hi 64Kerry

We were in Paris for the first time last year, and there is just so much to see!

Brugge is also very beautiful; we only had one full day there, and just skimmed the surface of all there was to see. We drove from Knokke (nearby), so didn't have the long train journey you'd have from Paris.

My instinct would be: spend as much time as you need in Paris, then if there's spare time, go across to Brugge and if possible, stay a night there to make the most of the visit.

I guess it also depends on if you'll be in Europe again . . . perhaps then save it for next time?

So much of Belgium is so beautiful and completely different from here in Australia, it's worth at least a week on its own to explore the villages, beaches and cities.

Happy travels, Di

I love Brugge but there is too much travel time involved and too little time to be there.

If you feel you must get out of town, try Chartres--wonderful cathedral.

I've visited Paris at least 6 times and I still wouldn't leave it to visit Brugge. In fact I wouldn't even give up a day in Brussels to visit Brugge.

Hi 64,

Bruges is about 2:30 hr from Paris via Brussels or Lille Flandres.

PREMS fares are 34E each way. Regular fare is 98E.

Bruges is a very lovely, mostly medieval city that is worth a day.

I think it is as interesting a daytrip as Versailles or Chartres.

I wouldn't scratch it without some consideration.
