6 days in Paris-first time for us

We are heading out Apr 23rd on the evening flight from MI, USA.

I want to see la tour d'Eiffel, L'Arc de Triomphe, the Louvre and window shop the French designers.

As an avid knitter, I plan to visit la Droguerie and find a local knit group to spend a little time with.

We love wine, even make some ourselves...we would love to have some recommendations while in Paris...perhaps a small local vintner/vinyard?

Can anyone help us with itinerary proposals? Do we need to buy admission tickets for sites before flying? How do we find out about local festivals/events during the week of our stay?

thanks , in advance for all of your help

Begin with a good guidebook. There are many but if I could only buy one it would be Rick Steves (check Amazon.com.) In planning your itinerary be particularly mindful of the days various sites are closed. They alternate so it is possible to work out a schedule around the days they close. Try to include an evening boat ride on the Seine - very memorable.

DH and I haven't been to Paris yet, though we are planning our first trip right now. We have found the Unofficial Guide to Paris book to be VERY helpful. Rick Steves is great, but so far that book has given us a great amount of info. Obviously, we haven't been there so don't know how accurate all the recommendations are, but we have found good reviews elsewhere for many of the hotels/restaurants.

Have fun with your trip!

My husband and I were in Paris in November for our first time - we had eight days there. Rented a really great little apartment in the Montmartre, and took the Metro everywhere.

We used the Eyewitness Paris guidebook - it's a bit heavy to tote along, but has really great maps, walks, and plenty of ideas for places to eat.

Enjoy yourselves in Paris! You are in for a treat!

Here's a website about Paris that I really love: http://www.a-night-in-paris.com/index.html
It's well written with lots of tips and commentaries by an enthusiastic author who is a silk artist. She spends time each summer in Paris offering a "Silk Painting Adventure". Hope you enjoy her site as much as I do.

We visited the Roland Plou and Fils vinyard in the Amboise region. Loved it and bought some wonderful wines. It's the only thing I carried home. You can probably arrange this through your hotel with any vineyard. Remember though that the purpose of these wine tasting tours can be to sell wines. Be choosy.
