6 days in Paris and London; Day 1

We are new to posting but have been reading Fodor's forums and trip reports for over a year while planning our honeymoon last spring (May/June 2010) to Rome, Siena, Florence, Venice and Paris and again this year (April 2011) to Paris and London.

This year, we got amazing airfare to Paris from Philadelphia ($224 r/t via a Delta sale that was posted on airfarewatchdog.com) so we couldn't pass it up for our anniversary trip.
We stayed in the 6th arrondissment in Paris and were there for 3 days, then London for 2 days. We took the Eurostar from Paris to London, then back to Paris, where we flew out of.

So far, I have day 1 of our trip on the blog, but stay tuned for an in-depth look at each day Click on the link below:

Enjoy!

Enjoying your report. I'll be there mid-June, and am so excited. Your details really help.

Wow,so many similarities to our trip back in December! My husband is a devoted Starbucks guy and we had to go there everyday (right by the Odeon Metro station).

We loved Le Comptoir and went twice...would have gone a third time but it was too busy, so we went to les editeurs, which was enjoyable. Our server was very kind to us and we enjoyed Le Danton for drinks and coffee, as well. I love that area!

So, it was nice to go back again with you.

Merci!

Thanks! Really enjoyed your blog - however, I didn't see anything about London?? We are taking the Eurostar and staying one night in London. (July 20) I haven't made reservations yet - and wondered if we need to? I'm not sure what time we will arrive at the station (we're coming from Burgundy - driving) and I don't want to buy refundable tickets. Can you give me any advice?

rcartinc, you shouldbook your eurostar tickets ASAP. The price goes up daily so it's smart to get them once your plans are more solid. The train goes from Gare du Nord in Paris to St pancras station in London.

Continue to be amazed at how similar our trips have been! I love the epicerie at Bon Marche (just for gawking). We went to Gerard Mulot everyday (before Starbucks) on our last trip.

We do love L'Atelier de Joel Robuchon but I think it all depends on what they have that day...we did a degustation menu the first time (a 3 hour lunch) and while it was all good, there were a few things I didn't love...in fact b/c there was so much food I had to stop finishing everything and then they thought I didn't like it...so they gave us an extra dessert. Our last trip, we just ordered off the menu, and we were so full from the entire trip, but we did still love it. I am wondering what happened with the server because our French is awful but they have always been very gracious and willing to speak in English or French. I am so jeall-y that you got to have the mashed potatoes...we have not gotten to have them there (we saw the Bourdain special after our first visit there and it made us want to go back...would love to go with Joel, Anthony and Eric Ripert!)

enjoying the posts and will continue to check in

bjms-
we love Marco Polo! Albano is a sweet heart. They are always so kind to us there.

They had a great time correcting my husband last year over ordering the dessert gorgonzola...it took him a while to realize that they were messing with him. Even our no-nonsense waiter was smiling!

something like..."un"
"oui, un pour deux"
"non, un"
oui, monsiuer, un pour deux...it went a few times and we were all laughing before my poor husband realized that they were just giving him a hard time!

Had the best melon and prosciutto there!

Do you young'uns needa "mature" traveling companion? If so, I'm your girl. Wonderful report.

Looking forward to the London portion, as we are headed there in Sept.

Wow, I just got back from a week in Paris and my trip was also remarkably similar to yours! Staying in the 6th, check, immediate trip to Starbucks, then to Trocadero for ET photos, check, lots of chocolate chaud and Gerard Mulot, check . . . even down to your fondness for Envirosax bags! I always bring one as my "gift carrying" bag, because they fold up so tiny in the suitcase but hold so much.

J'adore le Comptoir! We had the most romantic dinner there last April...sitting outside with blankets on our lap and enjoying the fantastic food. Thanks for bringing up a wonderful memory!
