Your Italian obviously cannot read English. If you read the label, it will tell you whether the wine is produced in Malta with local grapes or the grapes are imported.

I was in Malta last August and we rented a car for about 5 days when we got there. I would suggest renting the car ahead of time becasue it was difficult to locate a place that had any cars left. The only car we could find was one without air conditioning and it was really bad driving around Malta without air conditioning.

Also, probably the coolest thing we saw were the catacombes in Rabat (near the grotto of St. Paul). They were the best I've ever seen.

Also, if you are planning on taking a day trip via a boat, don't go through Captain Morgan tours. We did 2 tours through them and it was terrible. We took a day trip to Gozo and there was no shade anywhere on the boat... plus they charge a ton of money for water while on the boat. The next day, we took a tour around Valletta to hear about the history of the port and the women doing the tour was attempting to speak English with a heavy Swedish accent... we couldn't understand a word she said... it was completely worthless
