5am arrival in Dublin

Looking for a good Breakfast spot in or around Dublin after a 5am arrival from JFK.

I am not a Dublin expert but I will quote an answer from the TA forum
"I researched this for the same reason. I believe weekdays the Tea Room at the Clarence Hotel and Il Valentino Bakery & Cafe opens @7AM, Bewleys on Grafton and Elephant & Castle in Temple Bar opens at 8AM, Kilkenny Design Restaurant across from Trinity College @8:30AM. Check out their websites."

The above said it might be possible to drop your bags and have breakfast where you are staying even if you cant check in until much later.

You won't find anything open before 7, except maybe the hotels / B&Bs for residents. Mind you, by the time you clear customs, make it in to your hotel, drop off the bags etc it might be close to 7. There are some notable exceptions to this - one used to be the coffee dock in Jurys Ballsbridge, now one of the D4 hotels, and there is a place on Camden Street, both of which cater to the post-pub crowd and often do a 24 hour breakfast. I say "used to be" because I'm not sure if the coffee dock still does the 24 hour breakfast, but can check that out if you will be staying anywhere near there.

Do you arrive on a weekday or a weekend? And where are you staying? It makes a difference because on the weekend, most places will open at 9 at the very earliest. On a weekday, if you head for a business district, you will find that the cafes open early to catch the pre-work crowd. I work just off Mespil Road, beside the Mespil Hotel, and could name you 5 or 6 places on Baggot Street where you will get a decent cup of coffee and an OK breakfast from 7 (Voila on Baggot Street is my current breakfast favourite) - but those same places would be closed at 7 on a weekend morning.

Would you try the airport? Might be less hassle to just grab something there, and they should be open at that time

There are places at the airport that are open for these very early arrivals. They are within the security perimeter since they serve transit passengers. The food isn't bad but they are understaffed and slow. Still, the breakfast on Aer Lingus is such a joke that you will welcome coffee at the very least.

I would eat there before venturing onto the city.
