55 yrs birthday ideas

I had many safety posts today, but finally a tips post! What would you recommend for birthday ideas for a women turning 55 in Madrid? She loves to eat, drink wine, relax and be entertained.

Depending on your budget, you might be interested in booking a table at Restaurante Albora (http://en.restaurantealbora.com), where you might find Robert Downey Jr (his other job) slicing Jamón. David García (trained by Martín Berasategui) is an outstanding chef.

Besides, at 55, you're just a kitten. There is a long way to go!

Were it me, I would prefer lunch. The Spanish dinner hour is just starts too late for me to really enjoy, even at 35. Also, I personally find most "haute cuisine" restaurants in Madrid incredibly stuffy and tense, like going to a mass.

Some ideas if you are traveling in nice weather

"relax and be entertained"

See real deal flamenco at Casa Patas, the best tablao in the country in recent years. Just off vibrant and central Plaza Santa Ana. Changing artists all the time, and performances every night except Mondays: http://www.casapatas.com/

The best jazz venue in town is also just off Plaza Santa Ana. Cafe Central is excellent live music, the best and most laid-back atmosphere and good food also: http://www.cafecentralmadrid.com/

The entertainment is fine, but you don't go to any tablao or jazz venue for the fine cuisine. Take a look at Maribel's Guide to dining in Madrid for some decent recommendations.
