55 min connection In Amsterdam

Contempating a nice deal that has a tight connection on the return leg - only 55 mins in Amsterdam.

Question - how stupid is that? Is that way to short?

We will be coming from Rome and going to Dulles. I assume we won't be dealing with customs until we get to Dulles. We live reasonably close to Dulles - so it is no disaster if our bags miss the connection.

Thoughts?

Is it all on one ticket?

Security at Ams for US flights is done at the gate - and boarding starts (and closes) early to allow for that - you may possibly hit a problem there if your flight from Rome is at all delayed. You will also go through passport control as you will be leaving Schengen from Ams - another possible point of delay. You could possibly be expedited through passport control if you are late arriving from Rome.

If it is on one ticket and the airline are offering it, then it is a legal (if slightly risky) connection.

Personally I'd go for more time to allow for problems, but then I'm a wimp.

Thanks - this confirs what I suspected - it is a bad idea.

Well it could be done - Schiphol isn't very big after all - it won't take an hour to get from on gate to the other, and if the airline will allow it they have to sort you out with a fresh flight if you miss your onward one.

It may be worth a try. Unless it is snowing or thick fog the chances are everything will run like clockwork.

That is too funny - probably the same flight number. Thanks for the heads up.

My last connection in AMS was on a flight from LHR, about one hour. The LHR flight was delayed and it was a panic run to catch my flight to DTW.

AMS is a big place. Check your arrival and departure gates and look at the map of AMS.
