50..100..150...how many times do you get the next 50 messages...

First I read thru the current day's new messages on several boards (how ever many that takes, Latin America is less active than the US or Europe). Then I also sort by my own name to catch up on any theads I've contributed to.

So it sounds like topping isn't needed and yet it's done so frequently -- I think it clutters up threads unnecessarily! -- why can't readers just make a note of entries they'd like to take a second look at?

Topping is often used , not to remind users, but to put it back where it can be seen.
For example, the board can get very busy in the US evenings, so a question on e.g London transport might be posted and remain unanswered because all the UK members are asleep. Rather than hope that these listers will trawl through 200 posts, it is easier to top the thread.

Those of us with the most serious addictions keep trawling backwards until we reach where we left off last time, LOL. That's not so bad when you check in a couple of times a day, but if you go somewhere where you can't get on the net for a couple of days, it's a fair bit of work.
I don't want to miss any gems (or a good bun fight).
