I was in Rome last year for business and one of the gentleman at work recommeded the Tivoli tour. Some companies actually offer a Tivoli at night tour which includes dinner. Here are a couple of companies who offer this tour:

I went to Europe for five weeks by myself when I was 32. The only other time I had ever travelled by myself was 10 days in New York. Even though now I have a great time travelling with my significant other - a part of me misses travelling by myself!
Dont worry, trust your instincts, do your research - you will LOVE it. No pleasing anyone else no worrying about someone else. No disaggreements no compromises. It can be quite lovely! And way more people will talk to you - fellow tourists and locals, when you are by yourself. Smile, ask questions, be polite - amazing the help and assistanc you will get (even in New York). As long as you take care of basic safety issues (mostly a money belt) you will be fine in Italy and have the time of your life!
I actually avoided Rome on my first visit thinking it would be a bit much on my own - I was totally wrong. If you have an city sense at all - you will be fine in Rome. I am jealous have a fantastic time!! Dont worry about venturing out a little on your own too - youll do great!!

Your plans sounds lovely. I will be excited to read your post-trip report.
I am preparing to travel to Italy by myself in November (5 days alone in Tuscany followed by 10 days in Rome with a group of female colleagues I've been having conferences with for the past 3 years). The other day I did a google search on "Italy travel alone woman" and your original thread here about trying to get encouragement to go solo was the 5th hit. So basically, you're the reason I'm here on this forum. And you (and the women who've responded to you) have really inspired and encouraged me in my own first solo venture.
Brava!

Pam, one suggestion .. when you post your trip report ... leave out the 50 year old woman part. You are a woman PERIOD. And, you sound like a strong, healthy woman eager to go on with her life and see and learn new things.
Compared to many of us here, 50 is young, maybe not to you right now, as you embark on a whole new life, but trust me it is.
As the expression goes, 'you are only as old as you feel' - let the past go, you are PAM, a vibrant, alive woman. You must be in good shape physically (you sure are mentally) to even consider walking all over Italy. You will meet so many like minded woman on your walking tour. You may even meet a future traveling companion.
As one who can't eat a 'nice' dinner in a restaurant alone, I envy your courage and spirit.
Go for the shuttle. Years ago we took the train and a cab to our pensionne - via the looooong route. When we passed the Coliseum a second time, I knew we had been taken. Shuttles are nice because you get in, sit down, and enjoy a your entry into the city of your choice. Next thing you know, the driver unloads your luggage at your hotel, and you are home, all at a predetermined cost. Relax and leave the driving to them. Just keep pinching yourself, while saying ....'I did it, I really did it'.
Going alone is so much better than being stuck with a selfish, pain in the arse, whinning, travel companion that you went with only out of fear of traveling alone - don't ask me how I know
We're all eagerly looking forward to your trip report.
Bon Voyage,
Nina
