5 things i'd recommend about Paris
 

Just got back & these are the five things ( services ) that get my vote for excellency :<BR><BR>1: Hotel La Bourdonnais , superb hotel with really pleasant staff particularly Estelle who was marvellous.<BR><BR>2 : Restaurant Alexandre on rue de la parchemerie I think i spelt that correctly.<BR>Lovely place specialising in fondu & pierrade , cooking on hot stones <BR>Fantastic , cosy &nicely hidden place<BR><BR>3 : Cafe du Pr&eacute;s , in St Germain near Mabillon.<BR>Perfect for people watching & they have some great cocktails<BR><BR>4 : The Paris Metro - fast , clean & yes very safe<BR><BR>5 : Parishuttle , the bus from the airport.Lovely drivers & phone friendly office staff<BR>

I can't pass up a list! My 5 things--<BR><BR>1) Ma Bourgogne, 19 Place des Vosges - Frisse aux Lardons, Boeuf Bourgogne, Creme Brulee. Need I say more?<BR><BR>2) The Paris Metro - Best way to zip around town<BR><BR>3) rue de Rivoli - BHV, WE, Celio. Great shopping, good prices!<BR><BR>4) The Eiffel Tower - No matter how many times I see it it is still grand.<BR><BR>5) La Fountaine de Mars, 129 rue St-Dominique - Great service, nice people and the best Oeufs en Meurette in town!<BR><BR>Thats my list!<BR><BR>(Jamie, I think Parishuttle is a good service but I wouldn't call the drivers "lovely")

Richard , you cheated you named 2 restaurants - what was your favourite bar/ cafe ?<BR><BR>Definitely agree with BHV , a shop for everything<BR><BR>I had 2 different drivers , both were very chatty & friendly but then I Talk to evryone so the poor guys must have been glad when they dropped me off. <BR><BR>

Sorry I didn't go to any cafes! Would a patisserie count? I love La Maison Cleret @ 4 rue des Lavandieres. I went there every morning for 2 pastries and a cafe creme. It was right near my hotel, The Hotel Britannique. <BR><BR>Ok, One of my Parishuttle drivers was grumpy and didn't talk and drove like a maniac. The second was a nice guy, I think he was Latin or some sort of a Mediterranian. He was chatty, but not lovely.

1) Tea and finger sandwiches at Mariage Freres on rue des Grands Augustins<BR><BR>2) Spring in the Jardin de Luxembourg<BR><BR>3) Shopping in the Marais <BR><BR>4) Buying a picnic lunch/dinner at a street market.<BR><BR>5) Walking on the banks of the Seine

Top five<BR><BR>1. Muse D'Orsay...Impressionists!!<BR><BR>2. St Chappelle....amazing stained glass<BR><BR>3. Rodin Museum...more than just the Thinker<BR><BR>4. The Louvre...OK, just had to say it!<BR><BR>5. Cathedral Notre Dame...amazing!

hi all,<BR><BR>so we are listing 5 things:<BR><BR>1. hotel du bois-great location, great rooms, great service.<BR><BR>2. view from the bottom terrace of the sacre couer in montmarte on a clear day. view from the top looking over paris.<BR><BR>3. walking up and down the champ elysees at night...stopping at one of the outside cafes for drinks or coffee and people watching.<BR><BR>4. the cheese dogs and bagette bread....nothing better for lunch on the go. take one and sit in the tulleries...<BR><BR>5. the louve...i could spend hours and days there..<BR><BR><BR>so much more....ahhh paris!

ps....i crave those dogs and bagettes when i get home for weeks after. a lady from france opened a french bakery about 2 years ago in my local town. I finally got up enough nerve to ask her to make me a long one that I could freeze. almost the same....but i think the parisian air gives it a somewhat different taste...<BR><BR>

Chez Julian, a bistro near l'Hotel de Ville.<BR><BR>Any sort of pastry or croissant at Lauduree on rue Royale.<BR><BR>Chocolate bars and such from La Fontaine de Chocolat on rue St Honore, very pretty, very delicious, and not too dear to bring home as gifts<BR><BR>The Musee Jacquemart-Andre, full of furnishings and art by the masters, including Donatello and Titian, in a preserved private mansion. Not too taxing, not too long, good for the soul.<BR><BR>The decorative objects d'art tucked away on the sides of the ground floor of the Musee d'Orsay.<BR><BR><BR>

1) Mont Blanc and Pink champagne at Angelina's!!<BR>2) People-watching on the Metro<BR>3) All the romantic couples throughout Paris walking arm-in-arm or holding hands no matter what age (teens thru older people)<BR>4) Chez Ribe<BR>5) Gargoyles at Notre Dame

The food, the parks .. and for the museums .. the tapestries - Lady and the Unicorn. I think that's in Cluny but not exactly sure. <BR><BR>Loved chocolate crepes in luxemburg gardens in autumn.

for a free aerial view, go to the top of samaritaine department store on the seine near pont neuf..good photo opportunity and avoids the expense of tour mantparnasse. the daily market at place d' aligre is marvelous...open all morning. and among small museums the camondo , near the jacquemart andre, is full of lovely inlaid funniture and other stuf to die for!!!if you are interested in music you will be floored by the cite de la musique ..a huge exhibit of instruments thru the ages with headphones of narrative and music..currently has an additional exhibit of art/music connections with headphones..for good cheap breakfasts seek out a branch of quotidien;many preserves on the tables to go with the swell baskets of bread and rolls..we hit the one near the bourse just off blvd italiens but there are many around. is that 5 things???

The Passy cemetary is right next to the Trocadero on the west side.

1. Notre-Dame for the Sunday organ recital and Vespers, the interior east windows in the morning, and the east exterior any time.<BR>2. La Ste-Chapelle for its incredible stained glass.<BR>3. Musee National du Moyen-Age (Cluny) for an excellent museum of medieval Paris.<BR>4. A day trip to Chartres. <BR>5. An Ile St-Louis walk (stopping for an ice cream at Berthillon, of course).<BR>
