5 star hotel in madrid

What are recommendations for "best" hotel in Madrid? I am considering the AC Palacio del Retiro - any thoughts?
Thanks for any info.

Don't know it. The Ritz is the standard - both for location and service/amenities. Stayed there 2 years ago and it was wonderful.

My favorite is the Hotel Majestic on the Paseo de Gracia. Centrally located and it has one of the finest restaurants in Barcelona, the Drolma.

The AC Palacio del Retiro is an outstanding, upscale 5-star deluxe hotel, arguably the best in Madrid, but quite different in character than the Ritz. My experience is that it is superior to the Ritz in its level of personal service and comfort, but size does make a major difference. The Retiro is much smaller, and personal than the Ritz. It also caters to a more selective upscale business client than does the Ritz.

While AC are doing a good job in 3 and 4 stars hotels i donīt think they are at the top in 5 stars.
Ritz, it a classic but needs updating.
My choice in big size is westin-palace and in small or boutique Hotel Orfila.

I prefer the AC Palacio del Retiro over the Ritz for several reasons, service and personally being only two, but to each his own.
