annhig- I've tried to find out about west Orchard in 1820s and it is street that ran parallel to Smithford Street ran westerly direction from Cross , baptism in 1820 was at Holy Trinity - maybe the area where you lived is named after this street !!!!

By Cross, do you mean "Cross Cheaping" ? There is still a street of that name in Coventry, very close to Holy Trinity which was the church in the centre of town that we used to be walked down to from our school once or twice a year [I forget why].
St Michael's is of course the name of the cathedral - hence the huge Epstein statue of St Michael and the devil outside the new Cathedral building. That area was most probably full of wervers' houses in the 1820s, but it's all shops and offices now.
The West Orchard which is near where my mum lives may well be named after it.
