5 nights in Nice in June, location for nice budget accommodation?
Hi!
We're a young couple (mid 20s) going to Nice between 16th and 22nd of June. We're looking around for accommodation using Tripadvisor and Expedia, but since we don't know very much about Nice, it's hard to pick a location. We don't mind walking, but would preferably like to live in an area with restaurants and nice sightseeing within a close distance.
Any tips on hotels, B&Bs, apartments or other accommodation? Any tips in which areas to look?

Because of your age, I'm going to assume that you want some night life? Go back to Trip Advisor and look for hotels in the old town. Cours Saleya is a landmark to start with. Look around that area up to Place Garibaldi. Or go toward the water and along the Promenade des English runs along the beach (it is a rocky beach-wear shoes on it) and you can find many places along there as well.
DH and I did a lot of train travel so stayed near station. Wished we'd stayed nearer the action.

We stayed at the Ibis, close to the train station. Has A/C. It is a 8-10 minute walk to the tram. Use it to go to the beach area. At the tram rails, turn left and it is a 5 min walk to the center of Nice, where the market and good restaurants are. The restaurants close to the beach seemed to expensive and food looked ummmm not well presented, as did the ones across from the train station. Ibis front desk told us where to go to wash clothes, and close by was a nice, local restaurant, around the corner.

I have stayed at Hotel Amaryllis 1-2 times per year since 1983. It is a 2* located very close to the train station and the tram which will take you right to the water. This hotel is not for everyone. It is only a basic place to stay, but it does have individually controlled air conditioning which I like. There is a small elevator. WiFi is available for free downstairs in the lobby, but there is also a McDonald's a very short block away, and you can get free WiFi there also.

We've stayed at Rex`s Hotel right in old Nice, next to Place Massena and close to Promenade des Anglais, we found it to be a good deal, bathrooms were small but it was clean and even a little quirky. I think the owners have since changed but as far as I know it's still a pretty good deal. You can also look into Villa La Tour, which (in 2008) also had reasonable prices. You will love Nice!

Thanks for all the replies!
I have looked into renting a small studio apartment as well, and that seems to be cheaper than the equivalent standard of hotel. Of course I have seen cheaper hotels, but they all seem fairly small and there have been reviews of bedbugs and mould. Not exactly romantic.
What would be a good choice of daytrips from Nice? If we get bored just staying in the city, what could we get up to? I've seen that people keep recommending to stay close to the trainstation for good access to other areas. Any thoughts?
Also, we seem to have changed our dates for early July instead, so it might be hotter and more tourist filled.
