5 nights in Munich too many?

I have not been to Munich since 1974 and loved it as a teenager.

I am planning 5 nights there in January after 5 nights on business in Florence and am wondering whether I should stay 2 nights in Garmisch instead of the whole time in Munich.

I live in FL so mountains and snow are a treat. I plan on visiting Dachau from Munich on a daytrip and also visting the Deuteches Museum. I remember the beautiful gardens and open markets in the summer time but know this will not be the case this trip because of the season.

It is an easy train trip and there a couple of those wonderful Bavarian guesthouses with rooms available. We don't ski but snowmobiling sounds like fun.

Any advice?

You will probably rememeber from your former time in Munich that it is a big bustling city with lots to see and do. Garmish on the other hand is a little town with the main attraction being the montains (cable car up the Zugspitze). If you do spend time in Garmish don't miss the trip 10 miles to Mittenwald the violin makers village.

In Munich the Residence, Nymphenburg Palace, the Neues and Alte Pinakotek, the Bavarian Museum (across from the old PX) the beauty of Englisher Garten in winter and an occasional beer hall make a really nice place to visit for as long as you have.

If you have a car for part of the time it would be an easy trip to Fussen, to Salzburg, to Bretschgaden, Linderhoff, Oberammergau, Herren Chiemsee, Rothenburg or to the Andechs Monistery.

Too long for me. I would stop in Salzburg or Garmisch for 2 nites.

I am leaving Wed to visit Rothenburg for 4 days with my sister. Any recommended day trips? Any other beautiful cities close to Rothenburg? Any suggestions much appreciated. Also, is the DB train in the Frankfurt airport?

I could easily fill a week or more in Munich alone, but since you've given us a specific alternative, I'd go for the 2 nights in Garmisch, then 3 in Munich.

Also, is the DB train in the Frankfurt airport?

The DB train station is attached to the Frankfurt Terminal 1. Hourly there is a train from the airport with a change in Wuerzburg and Steinach. Some trains stop at the Frankfurt main train station and some don't.

For he5254, Wurzburg is definitely worth a visit and is only about an hour from Rothenburg. Especially worthwhile are the Marienburg Fortress and the Residenz.
