5 hrs transit in Zurich / what can i do ???
 

Hi all, I hope that you are keeping well.<BR>I have a 5 hous transit at Zurich airport in 2 weeks and would like to know what i should/could do to make time pass nicely.<BR>Should i go down town? Is there something to keep busy with in the airport?<BR>Thanks very much for any input.<BR>Sid

There is absolutely nothing to do at the airport except look at watches and drink bad coffee! However the airport is right above the train station so it is super easy to head into Zurich proper. You need to buy a ticket before you get on the train (look for the big silver ticket machines). When you are in Zurich it depends on what you like. A walk down the Bahnhofstrasse looking into all the fabulously expensive shop windows can be fun. A walk through the old town on the left of the Limmat River as you leave the Bahnhof (cross over the bridge right near the station) is worth while. Walking along the Limmat down to the Zurich Lake is nice. The Fraumunster Church on the right side of the Limmat, halfway down to the Lake, has wonderful stained glass and a great crypt. The Grossmunster across the limmat from the Fraumunster is nice also, again with great stained glass. That is probably all you would have time to do. Hope you have a good stop over.

I agree with Lynn about how easy it is to catch a train into town. There are ticket windows also if you are machine-a-phobic. Not sure where you are transiting to or from, but remember you will need Swiss francs. There are exchanges in the airport/trainstation and cash machines where you might get a small amount. They do sell train tickets for Euro at the windows but there is a surcharge. <BR><BR>There are numerous ways to pleasantly pass your several hours, but I'd hop on a tram outside the station and head to the lake and start walking!
