Just saw this thread but if I understand correctly, you plan on taking 5-6 days from Barcelona to Portugal and wanted to see northern Spain. This seems rather reasonable to me. My recent trip was where we did a circle from Barcelona to northern Spain into France around the Pyrenees and back to Barcelona in 12 days.

We drove to Pamplona where we stayed for one fantastic 24 hours (from noon to noon the next day). Then we went to San Sabastian for a couple of days. We drove from there along the coast (Lekeitio)to Bilbao. This is as far west as we ventured but it certainly looks easy to get to Porto in the next couple of days. Anyway, we absolutely loved our trip to northern Spain and think you can easily achieve your goal of visiting in a car with plenty of time to get to Portugal.

Someone gave a link to the area I proudly call my home and work place. But to be honest it is not really for children unless they love walking. Some of the walks are on steep edges where children should not be allowed to run in front and out of site of parents. Plus they are not allowed to partake in wine tasting!

For me it is cumbersome and hard to find something. However you can do a search.

"you think that Catalunya should be a bettre plan for me depsite you think that Galicia is a very cool place ? "

It is difficult to know what your children might enjoy, (mine loved the beach and ocean) but I know mine were never thrilled about driving for hours in the car. You know, the ubiquitous, "Are we there yet?" To my mind, exploring Galicia is best done in a car that gives access to little places on the coast.

And to be honest, I missed that your trip is in mid summer, so yes, Galicia would be cooler and less humid than Barcelona.

tostaky Mar 14th, 2017 07:26 AM

Thanks for that answer.

My kids dont have any problem being in a car, they are use to that.

Barcelona is something fixed, Our plane arrive there so , of course, we will take the time to visit is, hot or not !

tostaky Mar 14th, 2017 07:28 AM

Maybe 4 nights in barcelona could be enough, but we figure that it will take time to get over jetlag....

kja Mar 14th, 2017 03:49 PM

4 nights in Barcelona is, IMO, very little.

I think you are, once again, creating confusion by seeming to revisit decisions. At this point, I really have no idea what options you are still considering or why you haven't been able to reach a decision. I'm sure there are reasons, but you have too many different threads, too many different ideas, and not much enough clarity in your responses for me to make sense. JMO.

tostaky Mar 14th, 2017 06:51 PM

Ive got only two threads. English is not my first hence the lack of clarity maybe ?

Still 3 simple options ( we will keep our 5 nights in Barcelona) with 6 Nights.
1) Drive Barcelona to Porto (Drop car Vigo then bus or train)
2) 6 Nights Catalunya
3) 6 Nights Galicia

kja Mar 14th, 2017 07:11 PM

Sorry, but I don't think your command of English is the problem... it's that you seem to make a decision, and then make a different one, and then a third, etc., without ever making it why you are (or are not) making any particular decision.

Given all the advice you have been given, on your various threads here on Fodor's (and on other travel boards), what, exactly, is keeping you from a decision? As already noted, by several of us, NONE of us can make that decision for you. YOU have to decide what YOU want.

I am quite certain that I've given you all the input I have to offer, so with very best wishes, this will be my last response to any of your messages.

Good luck!

tostaky Mar 15th, 2017 04:58 AM

I suggest my english being a problem because you have said that theres not enough clarity in my answers.

Of course the decision belongs to us and, once gain, all the help given to us is ver much appreciated.

The reason why we are hesitating it's because each scenariso have, of course, his high and low.

I gaive you onluy one exemple: Someone said ''i guess Ctalonia would be a better fit for you''...then''oh your trip is in the middle of the summer ? Maybe Galicia will be better after all weather wise''. Those informations are helpful but gave us more to think about.

Maybe I would try a more precise question about Catalonia:

Our planing for Catalonia (after reading on that region) Is to rent a car from Barcelona and :
1)Go to Terragona and spend a night there.
2)Leave Terragonna to go to Girona.

Now Questions: Should we base ourselves in Girona for 4 nights and then do daytrips (besalu, Cadaques, Figueres) from that base, or stay 2 nights there and spent 2 others nights elsewhere in Catalonia ?

Last (and sixt night) would be near Barcelona airport to catch our 9:55 flight to Porto.

ribeirasacra Mar 15th, 2017 10:24 AM

Like I suggested ask too many forums and the members. Thus, the greater amount of answers you receive means you will get very confused.

kja Mar 15th, 2017 05:24 PM

@ ribeirasacra: LOL, you sometimes say incredibly bizarre things! I can’t imagine why soliciting multiple opinions wouldn’t be a benefit to travelers. It would only be problematic if – as in this case – a traveler doesn’t present his/her dilemma clearly to all involved and/or doesn’t do the independent research needed to sort through inconsistent opinions.

tostaky Mar 15th, 2017 06:22 PM

I'm sorry I really thought that my interrogations were clear.Ive done readings and I will do more. My last post seems very clear to me.

tostaky Mar 15th, 2017 06:24 PM

And about reading, what would be the best guidebook your opinion ?

kja Mar 15th, 2017 06:38 PM

"Ive got only two threads." Really? What about all of these?

5 threads in two months. I've seen worse.

And aren't you the one who said:

"I am quite certain that I've given you all the input I have to offer, so with very best wishes, this will be my last response to any of your messages"

Green guide and rough guide...Thanks .

Never seen such a long and complicated path to make a decision. I wish good luck and bit more of adventure spirit to the OP. Spain is a great country to visit no matter where, you can´t really go wrong, being so heterogeneous and so different from North to South, from West to East...so, as said, good luck and enjoy!!
