5 days in Bologna. Do we need a car?

We'll be in Bologna for 5 days in early November. Thinking about renting a car. Do we need a car to see some of Emilia-Romagna (Modena, Parma, Ferrara, etc...) or can we get to MOST of the good place by train?
Thanks.

Dear birddog327,

I'm from Bologna; I suggest to use trains because they works very well and my city is a very important "knot" connection.

Enjoy Italia!
