5 days between Florence and Amalfi Coast
 

Hello! I have 5 days and am trying to plan it between Florence/Siena and Sorrento area. I would really appreciate your recommendations how to divide up the time, where to stay, and main attractions (Pisa/Capri etc). We are 2 adults and 2 kids, and would love to see the country side, possibly some wine tasting. We are not big on museums but would see the most popular ones.

If it were me, I'd choose one or the other. There's no way I could do justice to either place (Tuscany or Amalfi coast area) in 5 days, and I'd lose nearly a full day in traveling to/getting settled if I moved from one to the other.

It's not as if you would run the slightest risk of running out of things to do and places to see in either spot. Tuscany would be perfect for renting a villa somewhere between Florence and Siena, then spending, say, 3 of the five days exploring hill towns and vineyards, and the other 2 days in Florence and Siena. The Amalfi coast area is a little more challenging to move around in, so I'd lean toward Tuscany for this visit.

I agree with Don, select one location. There will be so much to do in just 5 days that you won't want to waste any by moving to another area. I would recommend an apartment in Florence so that you are close to everything and can take a day trip by train to Siena.

Thanks for your replies! We are on a 12 day trip out of which spending 3 days in Venice, 4 in Rome and the rest trying to decide between Florence and Amalfi coast.

I would pick the Siena/Florence area as it works better with the rest of your trip. Will you have a car?

Agree that Florence/Siena area works best with the rest of your trip. Pisa is a very easy trip by train from a base in Florence.

What time of year are you going? I definitely agree with the advice above. Five days is not enough to see both Tuscany and the Amalfi Coast. For many reasons, not the least of which is your other itinerary, I recommend Tuscany. We have been to Florence and the Tuscan countryside 7 times and to AC once. We'll go back to Tuscany again and again - 5 days won't begin to cover it.
