5 day trip to Europe

Hi,
I'm planning a 5 day trip to Europe. Would really appreciate some help on -
- should I go for a road trip or a train trip?
- the trip has to start or end at rotterdam, what other cities could I visit?

I'm looking for a mix of scenery and culture. The trip will be in the summer. Any thoughts/suggestions are super welcome!

thanks :)

To determine if you will drive or take the train first you must identify where you're going. If you're going mostly to cities then use the train.

With only 5 days I would visit Rotterdam and Amsterdam and use the train.

Thanks Adrienne. My mistake in not mentioning - I've been to Amsterdam/Brussels/Den Haag/Paris before, so wouldn't want to repeat these. Otherwise, I'm open to either cities or smaller towns. And I'm hoping to visit atleast 3 (if not more) cities/towns.

You could explore more of the Netherlands by car. Head up to Friesland/Groningen/Drenthe maybe, or down south.

The Mosel valley would be very douable in your time frame, with a car you can also explore the Eiffel and some of the Rhine maybe.

Or head for the Ardennes perhaps.

Hop across to the UK on the night ferry from Rotterdam and visit York, and the surrounding countryside.

From Rotterdam you can fly anywhere. No need to limit yourself to surrounding areas.

You can spend 4 days in the Swiss Alps.
or 4 days in Stockholm (stunning city)
or Norway and its fjords.
The Cotswolds in UK...

Britain, Scandinavia and Switzerland would be your best bet in summer. Go to momondo.com and see which places are cheap to travel to from Rotterdam.

Germany seems the obvious choice as its so easy to get to from Rotterdam, jump on a train and go and explore...

I would go into Paris and end up in Rotterdam even though I missed the reason why you need Rotterdam. With a short time I might even fly to Rotterdam but the trip out to the airport, security and waiting for the place are all time busters.

Thanks a bunch for your replies!
I've narrowed down to Germany/Paris/Switzerland tour. I've been around Holland before. (I have family there - that's why it's a hard point in the trip :) ).

Guess I shouldn't be too ambitious and pick 2 cities in either country to explore, right?

Of course not. You'll waste half a day flying in and out. So you only have 4 full days in given city.
