48 hours in the Marais - favorite things to do, see, and eat.
 

Title says it all. I'm staying in the Marais before I head out of Paris into the countryside and would really like to explore. I've swung through on other trips but usually just some shopping and then moving along.

I already know about the Place des Vosges, Picasso Museum, Musee Carnavalet, Pompidou Center and will fit in what I can. Any other places to seek out that you particularly liked? Great places for snacks (I know about L'As du Falafel and have eaten there), lunch, dinner? I do have rez the first night at l'Ange 20.

ps. Also visited the Musee Cognacq-Jay on a previous visit - may have to go back... We visited Jacques Genin once, too.

Picasso Museum may still be closed for renovations...I think it's supposed to open in June.

Amorino has great gelato at corner of Rue Vieille du Temple and Rue Sainte-Croix de la Bretonnerie. There's also one on Ile St Louis -- great for ice cream and a stroll along the river at night.

If you are into strange, old musical instruments, there was (and hopefully still is, though I could not see it on Street View) a fantastic, small shop on the NE corner of Place des Vosges that's as interesting as any museum I've ever been to.

We love the Carnavalet, too.

I've taken any number of walking tours in Paris, including one in the Marais. The area has a fascinating history (well, doesn't most of Paris).

You know, maybe it was the Jacquemart Andre that I visited instead of the Cognacq-Jay. I will have to look them both up to see which one it was.

The Marais is my favorite area in paris even though its gotten so touristy. We did the Marais walking tour and thought it very interesting, particularly the St. Paul area.
Cognacq-Jay is small esp in comparisons to the Jacquemart Andre. I used to confuse them also and they are so different.
Have never been but there is the Victor Hugo house that can be visited. There is also the Memorial de la Shoah.
There generally seems to be various art and/or basin things going on in the Marais. Some are really good and others not so much.
We saw a great show at Maison EUROPÉENNE de la Photographie.

Also, check out hotel de Ville, they often have really good e hi it's there; we saw one that had "Paris in US movies" a few years back.

I'm not sure how much you want to spend to eat, but Bofinger and Petite Bofinger are nice. We like less pricey la Fee Verte, 108 r.d. la Roquette in the Bastille area.

I enjoyed morning coffee with the locals at Cafe Hugo.

I like browsing the jewelry shops on the rue St. Paul and on the rue des francs bourgeois. Also interesting jewelry at Linda Hattab, 7 blvd. des filles du calvaire.

The village st-Paul is an interesting neighborhood of adjoining courtyards off the rue St. Paul. Shops there tend to be closed in the morning.

On the rue de rivoli, neat the St. Paul metro, I like the restaurant La Tartine for great salads and other dishes, have stopped there several times for lunch.

Visited the Shoah Memorial and thought it was exceptionally well done.
If you like hardware, visit the basement of BHV department store (wink)

I highly recommend the ParisWalks - was fun and informative.

Have breakfast on the terrace at any cafe on Rue Rivoli by the St.Paul metro stop. A great place to people watch and have a coffee and croissant or tartine

All as mentioned above and of course Victor Hugo's house if you're a literature person.

Cafe des Musees (lunch) and Monjul have been surprisingly satisfying, although I wouldn't trek across town for either.

I like the Haut Marais and Square du Temple, the Broken Arm, Cafe Charlot and the chichi shops up there.

Sit in one of the most beautiful squares in the world, Place des Vosges.

On Sundays, the Ukrainian buskers Musiciens de Lviv are often at the Place des Vosges sometime around 2 pm.
