4 stars in Rome

Okay, I know lots of people have written in about budget hotels and over the top ones too, but we're travelling to Rome in a little over a month and still haven't booked a hotel! The problem is I am totally overwhelmed by the choices. I know wherever we stay it will be over priced, but would love any suggestions for a nice 3-4 star hotel for under $180 in a good area. Thanks so much for any replies.

If you, at least, have told me which hotels are available for your dates...

There are so many nice hotels within your price range, and so many posts recommending hotels in Rome, that I think it would be redundant listing them once more.

Surlok

Amy, there are dozens, or hundreds, of recommendations in the archives here for hotels in precisely the range you specify. Few in the over the top range, and in fact relatively few in the cheapie range as well.

I suspect folks are worn out from making such recommendations. You'll probably get a few responses, but you'd get much more useful results searching for past threads. The search engine is a bit kinky but it does produce some results. And there's really nothing wrong with spending some time going back through the old threads one at a time looking for Rome hotel threads ... rather than expecting everyone to repeat recommendations they've typed many, many times, once again just for you.

You'll find my recommendations starting at www.twenj.com/romehotel.htm

try bancotel checks or the boscolo grand hotel across the street from the US embassy and close to the spanish.

We found a little gem in the northeast part of Rome -- the Paroli district. It''s the Borromini.
Negatives: Its location is away from most of the tourist spots, so cab fares and buses will have to be factored in.
Positives: Small but comfortable and clean rooms, good breakfast (included), friendly staff. Also, the hotel is in sort of a neighborhood of small, nice apartment buildings, so you get the feel of being in a neighhborhood, instead of a in a busy area packed with hotels. And a one-block walk takes you to a main street that's busy with restaurants, etc.
All in all, it's worth considering.
