4 or 5 Star hotel in Amsterdam-good location
Hi,
I need advice on the above hotel category for a two night stay in Amsterdam. We'll train in from Schipol but I don't have a clue as to what part of Amsterdam to stay in for being central, walking distance to most things and a nice hotel. I see the Pulitzer is an option but it is rather expensive. I'd do it however, if that's a great place. Any advice would be appreciated as I don't have much time to research this two day stint. Thanks! |
4* Hotel Ambassade is in the nicest canal ring area and is comprised of several historic homes like the pulitzer.Location is perfect, near trams, walk to good dining.

we stayed in one RADISSON in the old part of town, it was very nice because it was built around a couple of old canal house, so the rooms where modern but the heart of the hotel was old and quaint.

The Anerican-hotel on the Leidseplein. it just recently had a renovation I believe. http://www.amsterdamamerican.com/
Or Golden Tulip Inntel. Near the Dam-square. http://www.hotelinntel.com/site_old/index.php Or the Park Plaza Victoria on the start of the Damrak near the station. http://www.parkplaza.com/webExtra.do?hotelCode=NETAMST |

Several years ago we stayed at the Etherea and like it quite a bit. The lcoation was very convenient.

I have stayed at the Marriott located at the Leidesplien (across from American Hotel) - which was a great location. If you don't want American chain, I visited friends who were staying at the Jan Lukyn (mentioned in other post) which was also a good location - right down the street from the Rijksmuseum and very near the Leidesplein (LOTS of restaurants and shops in the Leidesplein area). The trams are super easy to use so don't worry about being able to walk everywhere.

What about the Hotel de l’Europe, down the street from the Hotel Doelan, on Nieuwe Doelenstraat (sp?)? It sits on a corner, and looked very nice from our view of it across the small street. Because we were at the less expensive Hotel Residence le Coin, for five nights and could clearly see and hear the front entrance of l'Europe.
The location is good for cafes, and kind of central to the sights. By the same token, I didn't much like the looks of the Hotel Doelan, also down the street from us, because it's so totally designed in all gold and white. Too frou frou for my tastes. :)>- |
Amsterdam American on the Leidesplein. Tram stop 75M from the door and you are right in the area of clubs and restaurants. Museums are just a short walk away. From Amsterdam Centraal Station go out the front door to the trams and take 1,2, or 5 right to the Plein. Very easy if you've got drag luggage around.

Check out the Grand Sofitel, perefect location, historic building, and the best bedding in Amsterdam.

Another pitch for the Estherea. It's right along the Singel Canal, walking distance to many sights, as well as close to tram line and not far from Centraal Station. Lovely lobby, free coffee, tea, fruit, candy all day. Upper floors were a/c last year, possibly all now. Last July we were glad to have it. Loved Amsterdam!
|
We enjoyed The Canal House but I'm not sure it rates as a 5 star.
|
We stayed at The Grand Sofitel last July and thought it was excellent in every way.
|
I stayed at the Ambassade. Excellent and unique. Good location on a canal near the Spui. |
