4 nights around lisbon, portugal

I'm spending 4 nights just outside of lisbon and then heading to madeira for a few days. I'm looking to stay in 2 towns for 2 nights each. Any advise on where to stay? Sintra, Guincho, Cascais, Obidos, etc.

Figo-Please post a trip report when you return home-we're heading to both Lisbon and Madeira later this year and would enjoy reading about your trip. Have fun!

figo,

I stayed in Cascais for a week and liked it there. Easy access to the train and away from the city. Lots of good restaurants, shopping and along the coast! We went to Sintra & Obidos from there. I think it's a good choice!

Figo,

We were in Madeira & Portugal a couple years ago. Madeira is beautiful...you have to rent a taxi for a tour of the island...Very worthwhile. IMO, with 4 days on the mainland, I would skip Obidos. It was a major tourist trap & horrible hotels. We stayed in Cascais at Hotel Inglaterra & day tripped to Sintra. Don't miss the Palacio Nacional Da Pena in Sintra. We also spent a couple days in Condeixa at Pousada De Sta. Cristina. From there we saw the ruins at Conimbriga, Fatima & found some awesome deals on ceramics at warehouses in Condeixa.

Have fun!

Figo, I also recommend that you stay in Cascais. You can easily go anywhere from there. I live near Cascais.
But I don't agree with Holly in what concerns Obidos: it's not a tourist trap, it's lovely and worth going . And I don't know where she stayed but Obidos has wonderful accomodation ,starting with the Pousada, beautiful, and some other good and more economic options. I guess she may have chosen the wrong place.
