4 Hours in Lausanne... what can I see?
Due to connections and curiosity. I was wondering what I could do in Lausanne for a few hours. Do I even have enough time to do anything?
What are some must sees? Thanks! Susie |
Will you be at the train station in Lausanne? If so, from there if you walk up the very steep streets you can visit the Lausanne Cathedral. There is a spot just outside with a good view out to the mountains and the city below. You can google it and get some of the history and photos. In front and a bit below is the Natural History Museum. If you want to walk down, you can walk to Ouchey. It is lovely and Lac LeMan (Lake Geneva)is the focal point. It's a beautiful park on the lake and the mountains ring the lake. A short walk up the road from there is the Olympic Museum. The grounds are lovely with many interesting sculptures. You can't do both in four hours.
I was there in early March last year. It was not too cold with no snow. It was beautiful and I would love to go back. |
Thanks! That's exactly the thing I needed to know. Yes, I will be travelling by train.
Sounds great! I'll be travelling in March this year as well. Thanks again. Susie |
You can also ride the underground funicular down to Ouchy and also in the other direction toward the location of the cathedral.
The entrance is across the street from the train station. Using this might make things a bit easier since you won't have a lot of time to spend. |
www.lausanne.ch
brings you to a tourist website for the town, most Swiss towns have websites with addresses like this |
What do I remember most about Lausanne? The walk up those stairs to the cathedral with its wonderful vistas, but almost as much --walking along the harbor at Ouchy. It's been many years, but I thought it was beautiful! And, here's the funny part, I remember two bronze (maybe, maybe not) sculptures along our walk: one was of several gorgeous horses (just their torsos?) and one was of the monkeys of Hear no evil, See no evil, Speak no evil fame. I loved those two pieces! Isn't that silly? Did I dream them? J.
