4 days in the Dordogne - What are the most beatufil towns?
Hello-
I am hopping over to France for a few days in between a week in Spain and a few months in Italy. I only have four days, but have been reading a lot about the Dordogne region, here, on this board and in many travel books and other web sites, and it seems like a great place to visit. I wanted to see some towns that are quite different than the mediterranean towns I will be spending the rest of my time in. I like the look of Sarlat and Conques, for their dark, slate roofs, and medieval feel. What other towns should I visit? Any recommended drives? Thanks! |
Oops, I meant, "Which are the most beautiful towns?"
I am a horrible proofreader. |
Hi WB,
From whence are you starting? By car? ((I)) |
Hi Ira,
I am flying from Sevilla to Barcelona and taking the train up to Carcassonne for a few hours, or maybe a night. Then I will be renting a car in Carcassonne to drive up to the Dordogne area. I was thinking of staying in Sarlat or Domme. |
Sarlat, Collonges-la-Rouge, Domme, La Roque-Gageac, Monpazier. There are many others, some have the official designation of un des plus beaux villages de France and others do not.

If you can, stay at the Esplanade in Domme. It's lovely. So is the restaurant! I really liked Conques as well. We went last july, you might find my trip report useful. I think you can find it by clicking on my name.
