4 days in Poland...where to go?!
 

With 4 days in Poland, where would you recommend going?

I hear Krakow is really a good place to be! Just looking for some fun in Poland, nothing too somber as I've gone through some stuff myself lately...although I did think about going to Auschwitz. Thanks for any suggestions in advance!

Well, I probably am way underqualified to answer this - - I did a ton of searching, back in 2003, for "just the right (short) foray" into Poland, say... for 48 hours - - and then we ended up spending only about 24 hours, near Jelenia Gora.

But I can steer you to some useful threads here which have some "less-thought-of" ideas, besides Krakow and Auschwitz (Oswiecim)...

How spending spencing a couple of days in the Tatras with a couple of day in Krakow. The Tatras are a great place if you like the outdoors.We drove from Zakopane to Krakow. The Tatras are a really good place to see the countryside.

If you like really different. Go to the salt mines in Wieliczka, a short trip from the center of Krakow. We are four ladies 62 to 68 and we stayed 3 days in Poland two years ago. The salt mines were quite a walk down, but worth the walk. Three of us toured Auschwitz, but the one lady stayed in the car, we had been to Dachau twice before and she just didn't want to see anymore.

If I were to go to Krakow, what would be the best means of transportation to get there from Gdansk?

I was in Poland in April. A trip to Auschwitz and the salt mines are both worth your time.

Krakow is one of my favorite cities. There is a fine arts and a university museum both worth visiting. The university museum has an English tour once a day.

We just saw Rick Steves video on Poland. Try to see it. He shows many of the great places to see. I toured the castle, but missed the church there. Try to see both.

The square is the most wonderful place to walk around. Everything is there. Try the milk bars and the underground restaurants. Wish I could remember the names.

If you go to the salt mines, try the log restaurant right across the street. The food is wonderful and its a fun place.

Amber jewelry is the thing to buy. I love mine. Wish I had gotten more!
