4 days in Normandy
 

Any recommendations for farm/house/castle rental for 2-3 nights in Normandy? Planning on Bayeux, D-Day Beaches and Mont. St. Michel. Bayeux as home base two nights.

Appreciate the experiences of others.

2 Adults , 2 children ages 8 and 10.

Not a rental, but we stayed here - http://www.hotel-bellefontaine.com/ - on our last trip to Normandy and loved it. Rooms were HUGE, and it's very secluded, even though it's about a 3-minute walk to the center of town. Nice stream, beautiful rose garden, lovely park setting. Only drawback was no restaurant (but they did serve drinks in the evenings on th terrace) - but that wasn't a major deal, as Bayeux has a good selection of restaurants.

We stayed here for 4 nights in October 2009. It's a beautiful 450 year-old farmhouse in bucolic countryside, about a 15 minute drive from Bayeux.

The couple who own and run the property are very friendly - she's British, and he's a fantastic chef from Scotland. At the time of our visit, the restaurant wasn't open to the public, but they do prepare fantastic dinners for their guests upon request, and the included breakfast was great. The grounds are gorgeous and very relaxing.

You will definitely need your rental car, there's nothing within walking distance but farms and woods.

We stayed at Ferme du Pressoir, a very large restored farm about 15 minutes from the beaches. Our 13 year old son loved it. It's a working farm with horses, goats, cattle, etc. and lots of home grown fruit trees.

The rooms are wonderfully appointed and large and the owner, Odile, makes a great breakfast. Every morning our son went to the chicken coop, gathered eggs and Odile made omelettes to go along with cereal and fabulous breads and other assorted breakfast food. Wonderful.

She also offered us tastes of Calvados (the local alcoholic treat -- but beware, it's a strong brew).

Great place for kids and adults. Feel free to ask any other questions. Have a great time wherever you wind up staying.
