4 days golfing in Ireland - where?

Thinking about a trip to Ireland that will combine golfing and touring - we have never been before, so are open to any location. What costs (US$) are the courses in Ireland for a round of golf? Some of the group may golf while the rest will plan day trips, so need to accommodate both groups. Then the whole group will be off for more touring. Thanks in advance for your help ....

Hello Jill

You couldnt have chose a better country for a round of golf. Price is going to be relative, many of Irelands courses are listed in the worlds top ten and are therefore priced accordingly. It is however nearly always possible to get a round in without too long a wait. My own favourite golf area is Portrush, it has many fine courses and is situated along the stunning Antrim Coast, which would provide lots of entertainment for those in the party not planning to partake in the golf. I suggest you take a look at the many golf courses listed at http://www.goireland.com. Enjoy your first trip to Ireland I guarantee it will be the first of many.

Hi Jill,

my vote would be firstly for Mount Juliet - within driving distance of the medieval city of Kilkenny and also the Rock of Cashel for the non golfers.
I would then recommend moving to Kilarney Golf and Fishing Club - again on the Ring of Kerry for the non golfers. As Eamonn has pointed out already - Ireland is a golfers paradise....I believe we've more golf Courses per head capita in the world !I would recommend you get in contact with the Irish tourist board, specify that you are on a golf / sightseeing holiday and then decide whether you want to play Linx or Parkland....
Enjoy planning,

Fiona

Hi again - what time of the year would be best (reduce the odds of rain!)? We thought possibly May would be a good month. Thanks..

HI Jill,

My favourite month in Ireland has got to be September - not quite as touristy as mid summer! May can also be lovely but a little more risk of wet weather...I guess there's always the risk of a shower or two in Ireland - remember we've hundreds of types of rain !
For Golf purposes rule out December and January as courses can be closed due to inclement conditions etc.
Whatever month you chose - enjoy !

Fi
We had a lovely round of golf at Rosses Point near Sligo. We were in Ireland the last two weeks of May that year, and it rained for 10 minutes our entire stay. I'm not kidding.
