4 days from/to Zagreb...
After our guided tour of Croatia ends in Zagreb we have 4 full days on our own. Any thoughts/suggestions on a trip to Budapest-Bratislava-Vienna and back to Zagreb? Or other suggested itineraries? Thanks.

hi!
are you looking for a driver? you can mail me at [email protected] |
Why not go to Slovenia? It's right next door to Croatia, and while you'd miss Prague and Budapest, Ljubljana is at least as attractive and interesting as Bratislava, and Slovenia has a wealth of other sights that you could visit in a day or two: the Brda wine country, Lake Bled, Lake Bohinj, the Triglav National Park in the Julian Alps (including the Vrsic Pass), the Postojna and the Skocjan Caves, the Soca River Valley, Medieval towns such as Ptuj and Skofja Loka, and so on.
Slovenia is a natural continuation of a trip to Croatia: it's so close, yet most of its landscapes are very different (especially compared to coastal Croatia), so it provides a wonderful contrast to its southern neighbor. |
I agree----Slovenia is a charmer that deserves 3 days. Do not miss Piran.

Budapest and or Vienna would be possible but a long way off - there are overnight trains you could take. For info on trains check www.seat61.com; BETS-European Rail Experts and www.ricksteves.com.
