4 day travel from Barcelona
We are 60-50 age husband wife going to Barcelona May 7-14. I've been there twice but her first time. We've got 3-4 nights before a meeting in Barcelona May 13 and are considering a train into southern France or car rental to Catalonia Pyrenees or a combination of both. We enjoy historic trains also. Any suggestions for travel, destinations, local events, hotels are much appreciated.

well, if going to southern France you need no car - high-speed train goes to France - check some neat seaside towns and can take from Perpignan the fabled Little Yellow Train high into Pyrenees to La Tour de Carole - scenic route thru Pyrenees and from La Tour take scenic train thru mountains at start back to Barcelona. For lots on trains check www.seat61.com; BETS-European Rail Experts and www.ricksteves.com.

Have you considered the Costa Brava? it could fit your time frame well, as long as you don't need to rent a car within a day or so of crossing multiple time zones. And if you have any interest in Romanesque art and architecture, and perhaps a bit of hiking, a few days in the Pyrenees could be wonderful.
If you haven't already seen it, you might find some useful information in my trip report: https://www.fodors.com/community/eur...lunya-1047395/ |
If driving up coast towards France - Figueras is a so-so (nice) city but is known for the Dali House Museum - if into Dali it's great and even if not it's great:
