4-5 days in Paris: honeymoon
#21
I would not go all the way to Venice for just 1 night. Please stay there at least 3 to get a feel for the place. It's incredibly romantic and perfect for a honeymoon.
My minimum stay in Paris would be 5 days to not feel rushed.
I always take the trains in Europe because driving/car rental is too intimidating and always seemed such a hassle to me. Train rides are so relaxing. You can take a picnic, drink a bottle of wine, sit and chat with your hubby...

Congratulations. I'm no expert but I have gone to Paris for the past 3 years and just booked Christmas. I have stayed in different arrondisments and prefer the 7th. the Eiffel Tower area. We just love the Rue Cler market atmosphere and I just love looking at the Eiffel day or night but especially when it sparkles at night. In fact last year I booked www.DuquesneEiffel.com Rm. #055 the Gustav Eiffel room. It had a balcony with a view of the Eiffel that will take your breath away. It was so romantic. The front desk was so incredibly helpful and the location was perfect. I found the area very hip with fabulous eateries and Le Tourville (fab rest/bar) is just down the street. St. Sulpice for sunday mass @10:30 will get you a memorable organ concert. Climbing to the top of the Notre Dame to get close and personal with the gargoyles is also worth climbing all those stairs. Cafe Flore for people watching. "Tribeca" new hip eatery on Rue Cler. Drinks in the Hotel Costes bar. Latin Quarter is also a lively area too. What a memorable honeymoon. Best of luck and Enjoy.

Thanks for the great advice Suze & ReddV. We will be looking into hotel rooms tonight I think we are def. going to do the train. And I appreciate the suggestions on Paris. I will be back on in a bit....the hubby, my parents and I are going to lunch...and I am getting tormented because I am once again on Fodor's. I walked in the door and came straight to the comp. even though I knew we needed to go out...this could be dangerous, I am always feeling the need for a trip and I found people just like me , mwah haha (evil laugh )
I AM LOVING ALL THE ADVICE: you are all wonderful

When we visited the Normandy area (about 13 years ago), we rented a car from Paris, and drove to Rouen to visit Joan of Arc sites, then on to Honfleur for the evening. Very cute little town. We stayed at Le Cheval Blanc Hotel, which is still in business; very nice location on the edge of the harbor. http://www.hotel-honfleur.com/. I know you currently have only one day for this area, but just in case you change your mind...
The next day we visited the WWII sites, and spent lots of time doing so (more than we had planned). So we ended up skipping the Bayeux tapestry, which is kind of on the way to Mont St Michel.
We arrived at Mont St Michel to see a steady stream of cars and buses leaving the island. We stayed at Hotel le Mouton Blanc, which was entered via a store across the street from the Restaurant Mouton Blanc, or via a narrow "alley" between buildings; quite fun! Also still exists; http://www.lemoutonblanc.com/specific/formats/index.jsp.
I would also skip Pisa; it's interesting, but not enough so for basically an entire day out of your trip. If you have an "extra" day, I'd spend it in Rome or Venice. Also, I know many people like Lake Como/the lakes region generally, it just didn't click with me and DH. Maybe the pace is too slow for us there. Anyway, I'd say to read up on Lake Como, and make sure you want to spend two nights there (the same amount of time that you're currently giving to Venice). Also, check the train schedule from Paris to Lake Como, to see how long it will take. I'm guessing it will take a LONG time - it's the connection in places like Nice (or was it Marseille) that can take some doing.
