Hi everyone <BR> <BR>Hoping that all the experienced travellers to Italy can help me out. <BR> <BR>We will be arriving in Milan from Cinque Terre around lunchtime Wednesday and fly out for home (Australia) on Thursday night at 10pm. This will be the end of our 4 weeks in italy.(Sigh....) <BR> <BR>Any ideas for spending 36 hours or so in milan?? <BR>We'd love to see The Last Supper but I've heard you need to make reservations. <BR> <BR>Any suggestions woould be greatly appreciated <BR> <BR>Tina

You do have to make reservations to visit the Last Supper. We were able to do it while we were in Milan (a couple of years ago), but now you have to do it ahead. <BR> <BR>There is a da Vinci Museum which is of his inventions. Lots of his drawings, and some of them have been recreated in miniature (when we were there, all the descriptions were in Italian, but you could still figure out what the contraption was). It's in with the Naval Museum. <BR> <BR>The Duomo is quite something to see (waaay past overly decorated), and it's near the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele for shopping. <BR> <BR>The Navigli area was our favorite part of Milan - it's an area for artists, sort of scruffy, not a lot of tourists. <BR> <BR>

I have to second Elvira's suggestion re: Duomo. To date, this is my favorite European Cathedral. Not only because it’s the third largest but because the rooftop is extraordinary. An absolute must even if you’re a jaded cathedral-goer, you can either get to the roof by stairs or elevator. Either way you have to purchase a ticket (the stairs are cheaper) but you can get a combo ticket that includes the Duomo museum. <BR> <BR>I only had 24 hours in Milan the last time, but was able to snag a ticket at La Scala for a ballet performance. Around 6:00 pm they started selling whatever was left at discount. I was able to get an orchestra seat for $15. Just as a note, La Scala is very near to the Duomo.

The Duomo and adjacent Galleria should be at the top of your list, along with the nearby LaScala Museum and Milan's famous fashion district--problem the world's largest and most elegant. Even if you don't shop for anything, it's worth it just to walk around and look!

Tina, <BR> <BR>When are you going? <BR> <BR>I ask because in August, many places are closed in Milan, so, you'd better check in advance. <BR> <BR>Brera, besides the Galleria, is an interesting neighborhood, with many nice restaurants. <BR> <BR>Surlok

If you're into food and wine at all, don't miss Peck, a short walk from Piazza Duomo. The most memorable food emporium you'll ever experience!

The Milan duomo is a must see. Fabulous stain glass windows. <BR> <BR>Another great thing to do in Milan is just walk around the city. You will be amazed at how upscale people are there. We felt like bums!

Can anyone tell me how to make arrangements to see the last supper restoration. Leaving for Italy Sept. 7 and will be traveling to Lago Garda for 4 nights the week of Sept 10th. We'll have a rental car and hoping to get to Milan either going or returning from the lake. Does anyone know the distance between Lago Garda and Milan? Thanks. <BR>
