3 weeks in Germany in summer
 

Hello! I am thinking of spending 3 weeks in germany starting from berlin & finishing in munich or frankfurt. We might do a few day trips from munich - to innsbtuck or salzburg. Is there a scenic route or anything to recommend as we will be renting a car & would like to stop in quaint little villages during the trip in germany ? Thanks

Well, there is the Romantic Road and given your three week itinerary, you can certainly fit it in.

It probably makes more sense to finish in Munich instead of Frankfurt.

It will depend on how many days you will have for that road trip, i.e. 3 weeks minus x days in Berlin and y days in Munich.

Possible regions which may fit your taste (naming the larger towns or cities so you find the regions easier on a map).
Depending on which route you choose, you cannot incorporate all of the below into one itinerary.

- Harz mountains (Quedlinburg, Wernigerode)
- (river) Weser Uplands (Hameln, Hann. Münden, Karlshafen)
- Elbe river (Meissen, Dresden, Saxon Switzerland)
- Franconia / Northern Bavaria (Bamberg, Würzburg, Regensburg)
- well, yes, the Romantic Road (the road is not terribly scenic, but the towns and villages are)

Once in Munich, you can drop the car. Daytrips to Salzburg are easier (and inexpensive) by train.
