Here is the OPs' original thread from a few months ago

They have done a LOT of thinking/musing/changing so I don't suppose they really want to radically change the current plan.

Thank you to everyone for your thoughtful suggestions. We've done a lot of thinking and itinerary revisions, and I believe we have come up with a great itinerary that will work the best for us and includes everything we'd like to see.

London - 3 Nights (2 full days in the city)
Bath - 2 Nights (sightseeing - Stonehenge, Wells, Bath, Cotswolds)
Ludlow - 1 Night
Manchester - 2 Nights (with family)
Lake District - 2 Nights (leisure)
York - 1 Night (sightseeing)
Edinburgh - 1 Night
Scottish Highlands - 2 Nights (3 day guided tour)
Edinburgh - 2 Nights (1 full day in the city)
Dublin - 2 Nights (1 day in the city, 1 day Northern Ireland Tour)
Southern Ireland - 2 Nights (3 day guided tour)

We'd like to stay in London for a minimum of 3 nights to take time adjusting from jet leg. We are slightly worried that this itinerary will be tiring (as we are moving around quite a bit), but we'll be taking it slow and easy during the Manchester/Lake District portion. We'll also only be self-driving between Bath and York. We hope that we can rest on the tourbus/train rides during the other portions of our journey.

*Still contemplating the idea of flying into Belfast from Edinburgh (instead of into Dublin). It would cut out time on the road from Dublin to Northern Ireland and back, but we worry about adding another hotel change.

We are very excited to start the next portion of trip planning - looking into hotels and the details of what we will be doing in each city.

York to Edinburgh is about 3 hours by train - for discounted tickets go to www.nationalrail.co.uk and check - booking early can save a ton - price both classes as sometimes first class may not be much more than 2ndclass on what are the cheapest tickets available at that time when you buy. Don't even think of a railpass.

London-Bath too for discounted tickets. For lots of goodies on British trains check www.seat61.com; www.budgeteuropetravel.com and www.ricksteves.com. Seat61 is done by a British bloke who knows everything about discounted tickets and British trains, having worked with the railways I think for quite a spell before creating his successful commercial site www.seat61.com.

Yes especially since folks don't often respond to old threads resurrected- if you have any questions that is!
