Molyneux:

I just added some pix of the Turkish Lake District (west of Konya, north of Antalya). It's a region not very often visited by westerners...scenic, laid-back, welcome change of pace from the more touristed areas of the country. I was introduced to it by some Turkish Air Force officers while doing some projects with them back in the 80's. The drive south to Antalya is a pretty one through the Taurus Mountains and rose country. It's where OC occasionally hides out after running afoul of the Po-lice

thanks all. kja, love the trip report and stu love the lake district...that's our kind of scene...relaxed, scenic and laid back. We would LOVE to spend more time in Turkey, but can't change the dates from July 22 - August 6th. I love the Haman/bath...just got back from visiting one in Berlin of all places...it was fantastic.
So, I'm still at a bit of loss on how to best get from Istanbul on the 27th to Cappadocia to Kabak and back to Istanbul on August 5th. I'm thinking, renting a car to Fethiye will give us the most flexibility to see everything based on kja trip report then take a flight back to istanbul from Fethiye. Thoughts?

I'm glad you enjoyed my trip report! Since I didn't visit Kabak or Fethiye, I can't answer your questions. It looks like otherchelebi and Croesus - 2 area experts - gave you some suggestions that should be worth exploring. I'm not sure there's a "wrong" answer -- just ones with different advantages and disadvantages. IME, the Rough Guide is the guide book that provides the best information about transportation options, so if you haven't already checked it, you might want to do so. Good luck!

I would fly from Istanbul to Cappadocia. Turkish Airlines have flights from Atatürk (IST) to Nevşehir and Kayseri (Nevşehir being closer to Göreme). Also AtlasJet from IST to Kayseri, and Pegasus from SAW to Kayseri.

You can fly direct from Kayseri to Antalya with Pegasus and SunExpress (not very convenient flights, though, arriving in the middle of the night, I think).
Or rent a car in Cappadocia and drive to Kabak. Quite a long way, so maybe overnight in Eğirdir on the lake there. I've stayed 3 times at the Choo Choo pension there, very nice, Huseyin is a good host - http://www.choochoopension.com/index.php

If you decide to drive it, there are some interesting sights to see along the way. Lots of hans on the Silk Road from Cappadocia to Eğirdir - http://www.turkishhan.org/visiting.htm
And Sagalassos is worth seeing on the road from Eğirdir to Fethiye.
